System Administrator I,II,III - Student Computing

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The Systems Administrator I, II, or III will administer and maintain enterprise-level IT systems which may include network hardware, server hardware, systems software, and applications; enforce procedures and solve technical issues to ensure availability, reliability, stability, and scalability of systems; provide problem escalation support as required; design, plan, and implement large, complex, enterprise-level systems to support core organizational functions. This includes new installations and configurations of systems and applications along with the general maintenance, security and vendor-supplied updates, basic administration, adhoc, and execution of processes and procedures for ongoing management of the systems environment. Required Qualifications:
Level I
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field OR any combination of relevant education and experience totaling four years.

Level II
Graduation from an accredited institution with an bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field plus one year of job related experience or any combination of higher education and work experience totaling five years related to Information Technology, one of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining of enterprise level IT systems.

Level III
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field plus three years of work experience in IT or a combination of education and experience in a related field totaling seven years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
  • Knowledge in at least 2 of the following: Linux, MySQL, Apache, XML, Mac OS, Windows OS, and Cisco IOS.
  • Knowledge and experience with network component analyzers, scanners, testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Knowledge and experience working in a customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment.


Skills
  • Skills in problem solving, analysis, ingenuity, and research.
  • Skills in organization, planning, prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Skills in communication, training, mentoring, customer service, and interpersonal
  • relations.
  • Skills in scripting, documentation, and use of Office applications.
  • Skills in project management, strategic planning, personnel management, and
  • performance management.
Abilities
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documentation, and to present technical concepts in layman’s terms verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow complex and detailed procedures, and think logically to resolve issues and problems.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively without direct supervision.
  • Strong ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technology.
  • Ability to apply organizational goals to daily work.


Preferred Qualifications:
Successful completion of one current industry recognized certification that is directly related to the administering and maintaining enterprise level IT systems is required.

Physical Requirements:
Work will be performed in a normal office setting environment
