Director of Counseling Services

 

Coastal Carolina University seeks candidates for the Director of Counseling Services. The Director of Counseling Services is a full-time position reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student Wellness and Health Equity.

 

Duties will include, but are not limited to: provide psychological assessment, individual/couples/group counseling, and crisis intervention with students who are experiencing psychological, developmental and educational concerns (this includes providing direct clinical hours, overseeing, and participating in the after-hours on-call rotation process); supervise Counseling Services staff and operations including oversight of evaluation processes;  ensures counseling staff are knowledgeable of current standards of care, best practices, and effective mental health treatment models for college students, and appropriate diversity, equity, and inclusion mental health approaches are in place to meet the needs of a diverse student body; manage relationships with campus partners to ensure appropriate partnerships are present to meet students’ mental health needs on campus including creating close partnerships with specific offices that Counseling Services works most closely with (Student Health Services, LiveWell Office, Housing, and Dean of Students Office) as well as campus partners across student affairs and other units; manage departmental budget and assessment processes; serve as a campus expert on mental health and work collaboratively to educate the campus on best ways to support an environment conducive to mental health and wellness; serve as a member of departmental, divisional, and university standing and/or ad-hoc committee as appropriate; within the guidelines of confidentiality, consult with faculty and administrators regarding specific students’ needs and mental health issues; and other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements: Advanced degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education, or related field is required. Clinical/counseling experience in a college/university counseling center or a multidisciplinary outpatient mental health center; experience in program development, assessment and evaluation; demonstrated experience of meeting the mental health needs of a diverse population; and supervisory experience preferably in a campus setting are all required. Licensure or demonstrated

eligibility for licensure within one year of hire is required. A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D.) in Counseling psychology, clinical psychology, counselor education or related field; experience in a higher education setting; demonstrated work in the area of higher education assessment and planning; and demonstrated expertise and leadership on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion to meet the needs of a diverse campus population are preferred.
