Purpose of Position
NKU seeks a full time STEM Communications Manager. This position entails creating and implementing a communications and marketing plan for the STEM disciplines at NKU, including five academic departments and one STEM center. We are seeking someone with the skills to organize and direct our communications strategy, support relationships between internal and external stakeholders, manage social media, and design promotional materials. Our stakeholders include current students, prospective students, parents, alumni, community members, teachers, employers, donors, and others. This is a new position so we seek someone who can develop this role into one that increases NKU’s recruitment of STEM students and helps us better serve these students and our community.

The STEM Communications Manager should have a demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures. As such, we request that applicants explain how they will help NKU better reach and serve diverse stakeholders in their cover letters.

The position is open until filled but the search committee will begin reviewing applications approximately one week after posting. Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate among six STEM units—as well as the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Informatics—to devise and implement a STEM marketing and communications plan
  • Write content for both print and web including websites, brochures, and newsletters geared toward internal and external audiences
  • Serve as webmaster for all STEM units’ webpages, ensuring that they meet NKU’s accessibility and marketing standards
  • Manage all STEM units’ social media
  • Track, review and report on data analytics from websites and social media (e.g. open, click, response rates) whenever possible to assess the effectiveness of communication methods
  • Recommend techniques to improve the public image of STEM at NKU
  • Collaborate with departments to recruit new undergraduate students and participants in P-16 STEM programming
  • Work with NKU MARCOM on press releases
  • Create and distribute promotional and marketing materials
  • Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in marketing, communications, English, public relations, journalism or related field
  • 5 years of experience working in a marketing or communications position.
  • Possess a solid understanding of effective marketing techniques
  • Experience in stakeholder/community engagement
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Ability to thrive in diverse teams and reach diverse audiences with marketing and communications
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Familiar with – graphical design and video software (e.g. Canva, Piktochart, Adobe Creative Suite), Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, social media management software
