VCU Telecommunications Services is looking for a Voice Field Engineer to join the team!

Position Summary

The Voice Field Engineer is responsible for the 24x7 maintenance of installed voice systems and voice network projects; contributes to the development of telecommunications standards and adherence to those standards to ensure university-wide reliability; assist in the planning, design, and implementation of projects for new locations and deploying voice network equipment across the University and VCU Health campuses and clinics.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Extensive work experience in the installation and maintenance of telephone key, PBX, and ISDN voice systems
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and demanding environment
  • Support and troubleshoot carrier services Centrex & POTS lines as well as BRI & PRI circuits
  • Support and troubleshoot VoIP, SIP, digital and analog endpoints
  • Ability to demonstrate strong problem solving skills
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal relationship skills
  • Detail oriented and proven organizational skills
  • Exhibit working knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure, knowledge of voice networking
  • Exercise considerable initiative, planning and judgment and work independently
  • Ability to participate in after hours on call rotation and after hours work as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in spreadsheet, email and word processing applications; working knowledge of Microsoft applications and Google mail preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with service providers to isolate PRI/DID issues
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment and commitment to do so as a staff member of VCU
  • Degree in telecommunications, information systems, or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position
Preferred Qualifications
  • Telecommunications work experience in an academic and health care setting
  • Working knowledge of inside and outside cable plant facilities
  • Demonstrated work experience installing voice Gateways; i.e. Avaya G430/G450
Required Licensure
  • Valid Driver's License
