Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect and test electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment.

Isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical, using suitable testing instruments.

Examine and test elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.

Replace faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures and appliances.

Renew circuits either by isolating and cutting off defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.

Replace defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings and bearing and other electrical parts.

As required, estimate materials needed and records time and materials expended on each work order.

Will have minor supervisory duties when helper is assigned to assist in the work of the electrician.

Perform snow removal duties such as shoveling, sanding, salting, spraying and operating snow removal equipment during regular work hours and off hours when called out. Will be considered essential personnel.

Will be required to respond to emergency situations during regular work shift and off hours.

Will be required to work special events, such as graduations, sporting events and set up for events.

Lift, carry, push or pull a variety of electrical materials such as cables, conduits, fixtures and equipment. Must be able to lift 100 lbs and carry 75 lbs.

Climb ladders, balance, stoops, kneel and crouch to gain access to electrical wiring, etc. Be able to work from ladders, scaffolding and lift at heights up to 100ft.

Work with hand tools. Be able to use testing and metering tools of the electrical trade.

Work inside and out in all weather conditions.
