Duties and Responsibilities

Fairmont State University is seeking candidates for an organized,
engaging admissions counselor (up to four positions) who will connect
students with Fairmont State University, academic programs, and
resources to help them get the most out of their college experience.
Admission Counselors meet with students to assess their academic
standing and extracurricular activities, inform them about Fairmont State University and its academic programs and majors, and connect them with resources that will help them navigate the admissions process and assist them in identifying ways to fund their college education - including scholarships and financial aid. Admissions counselors conduct interviews, arrange for campus tours, conduct information sessions, and represent the University at college fairs or other recruiting or outreach events.

To be a successful admissions counselor, you should be committed to
learning more about the students you work with and assist them in
understanding the value of educational attainment. You should be
knowledgeable, resourceful, and supportive with strong communication
skills.

Admissions Counselor Responsibilities:
Assisting traditional and non-traditional age students in community
colleges, and high schools to help them prepare for, select, and get into
schools. You will also be responsible for meeting and interacting with
adults seeking to return to college, or continuing their education for the
first time since high school. Highlighting the benefits of specific programs, and courses in order to attract students and encourage diversity on campus.

Staying current with University admission processes and requirements,
competitive programs, majors, and courses, and developments in
education and financial aid.
Organizing recruiting events and representing Fairmont State at college
fairs, high schools, and community events.
Conducting campus visit appointments, reviewing application materials,
and assisting in the application process.
Arranging campus tours and conducting information sessions.
Developing and maintaining an active alumni network to plan events,
help students find opportunities in their fields, and obtain funding.
Maintaining accurate and current knowledge of educational legislation,
trends, developments, and resources.
Admissions Counselor Requirements:
Experience in college admissions may be preferred.
Familiarity with college and university programs, majors, admissions
requirements and processes, and scholarship and financial aid resources.
Excellent active listening, verbal and written communication, and
interpersonal skills.
Strong planning and people reading skills.
Ability to multitask and stay organized.
Willingness to guide prospective students and families and provide
ongoing support as they make important decisions.
Other duties as assigned.

- Able to coordinate multiple tasks and detailed events
- Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences
- Excellent with organizational and planning skills
- Responsive to supervisor feedback and committed to continuous
improvement
- Prepared for frequent overnight travel as required including evenings
and weekends
- Able to rapidly acquire knowledge of admissions, curricula, and record
policies & procedures.
- Willing to work independently as well as part of a team, and be
accountable for deadlines and goals within an assigned territory or
specific student population.
- Experienced and willing to work within a growth and change mindset
- A high achiever with excellent people skills
- Excel at initiating conversation with prospective students at college fairs and other events.

Candidates with prior marketing, sales, or recruitment experience will
receive priority consideration.
