Duties and Responsibilities
The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for creating visual storytelling by producing creative, inspirational videos and photography across multiple platforms. The Specialist identifies and optimizes best performing content and distribution channels for delivery to ensure focus of content development and ROI. The Specialist produces videos and photography that promote and market Fairmont State University, its programs, students, and employees.
The Digital Content Specialist serves as the primary photographer and videographer for the office of University Relations and Marketing and will attend events for this purpose. The division of duties will vary, typically but not always at approximately 45% video, 45% photo, 10% content review, analytics, competitive audit analysis, and social media. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serves as the primary videographer, editor, and producer for university marketing videos such as commercials, student life videos, department promotion videos, faculty/staff/student profiles, and event videos for the university, athletics, alumni, and the foundation.
- Creates high-quality videos and photography that enhance Fairmont State University's reputation, attract prospective students, support development, and fundraising activities.
- Films and/or photographs some college events (requires working some nights and weekends).
- Schedules and scouts locations, maintains contacts and resources for talent selection, stays abreast of relevant University events for coverage and documentary opportunities, identifies and suggests possibilities for content and coverage.
- Makes technical and creative decisions regarding lighting, angles, lens selection, microphones, and locations on shoots.
- Works closely with the content and design team to ensure integration of brand objectives and to develop creative, compelling solutions.
- Generates new ideas as well as translates the needs of others into proposals.
- Identifies, visualizes and creates opportunities for video creation within all university areas.
- Uses varied media including graphics, music, voiceovers, and photography to condense complex processes into brief, enjoyable explanatory videos.
- Compresses final videos for delivery on websites, YouTube, and social media.
- Takes professional-grade, dynamic marketing photos and video for use in videos, print, and web marketing.
- Keeps current with trends in video, audio, photography, and graphics to create videos and photos that can compete with our market competitors.
- Shoots video and manipulated and edit film pieces in a way that is invisible to the audience.
- Reviews shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes' value and contribution to continuity.
- Trims footage segments and puts together film sequence.
- Helps to choose and inputs music, dialogues, graphics and effects.
- Creates rough and final cuts.
- Ensures logical sequencing and smooth running.
- Consults with stakeholders from production through post-production process.
- Continually researches, discovers and implement new editing technologies and industry best practices to maximize efficiency.
- Performs related work as necessary and as assigned.
