Adult Gerontology-Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program Director

 

Mary Baldwin University (MBU), in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates (SH & A), invites doctoral prepared candidates who share MBU’s passion for inclusive education to apply for the full-time ranked position of Adult Gerontology-Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) Program Director. Reporting to the Director of the School of Nursing, the Program Director position is located at MBU’s branch campus at the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville, VA. The College’s School of Nursing has recently expanded to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree to complement MBU’s established professional programs. MBU seeks individuals with exceptional skill and experience in nursing education, practice, and administration to apply for this full-time, 12-month, non-tenure position (rank commensurate with experience).

 

Primary Responsibilities:

The Program Director’s primary responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of all academic aspects of the program:

  • Ensure quality student-centered learning experiences during the program.
  • Evaluate overall student performance.
  • Educate students and academic faculty about academic programming as it relates to legal, ethical, and academic issues (both knowledge and skill).
  • Ensure that the educational environment demonstrates characteristics of current and future expectations and professional behavior, while remaining current on trends and policy related to graduate nursing.
  • Maintain compliance with standards.
  • Ensure that the educational program maximizes the available resources.

 

Administrative Responsibilities: 

  • Provides guidance, support, and leadership for the AG-ACNP BSN-DNP program.
  • Coordinates, implements, and maintains nursing program accreditation and approval.
  • Recruits, hires, provides orientation, and evaluates core and adjunct faculty and administrative staff.
  • In conjunction with the faculty, establishes criteria for admissions, curriculum content, and performance criteria for the students.
  • Prepares an annual budget for approval by the Director of the School of Nursing, the Dean of MDCHS and the University’s Senior Executive Vice President and administers the approved budget, taking into consideration long and short-term planning initiatives.
  • Participates at the University level to ensure the program promotion, and integration, as well as availability of needed student services.
  • Provides leadership for the formulation and revision of policies, procedures, and objectives, as needed for the Program, in conjunction with the faculty.
  • In conjunction with the faculty, develops doctoral project opportunities for doctoral nursing students and approves all final DNP Scholar Projects.
  • Regularly evaluates student progress and ensures that there are follow up studies on the placement and achievement of Program graduates.
  • Serves as resource to the local medical community on issues regarding doctoral nursing programs.
  • Participates in local and national organizations to ensure Program excellence and appropriateness of the curriculum and instruction.
  • Serves on University, College and Program committees.
  • Develops core faculty and supports their teaching, scholarship, and service priorities.
  • Fosters relationships in the professional community and within professional associations.
  • Participates in admissions, marketing, fund-raising, and other functions that support the program. Oversees student recruitment, selection, evaluation, advisement, and retention.
  • Manages faculty recruitment, professional development, evaluation, and retention.
  • Assigns and monitors faculty and staff responsibilities.
  • Ensures quality of the program.
  • Represents program to college administrators and negotiates for program needs.
  • Fosters an academic climate that facilitates student, faculty and staff learning as well as professional growth.
  • Facilitates library acquisition of resources for student and faculty learning, teaching, and research.
  • Collaborates with other departments and divisions to increase learning opportunities and decrease duplication of services.
  • Fosters beneficial relationships with professional and consumer communities, healthcare providers, community leaders, community at large, and other entities as appropriate.
  • Directs effort and attention to teaching and learning processes used throughout the curriculum.
  • Promotes student-centered pedagogies and excellence in student advising.
  • Keeps faculty informed about the education program, pertinent policies and procedures, and changes influenced by board certification.
  • Monitors a changing health care delivery system and advises School Director, Vice President, other appropriate individuals, and faculty of changing trends and their potential impact on student enrollment, instruction, curriculum design, and clinical education.

 

Academic and Advising Responsibilities:

  • Maintains partial teaching load in area of appropriate expertise and as negotiated with the Director of the School of Nursing and the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.
  • Meets other teaching requirements outlined in faculty job description related to courses taught.
  • Assists students with academic inquiries and issues resolution.
  • Advises assigned students and student groups.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the School of Nursing and the Dean of the College of Health Sciences including attending some events in the evenings or on weekends.
  • Represents Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at various committee meetings.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate (DNP, PhD) degree;
  • Certified Advanced Practice Nurse with a specialty in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care;
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in academic leadership;
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including an ability to work effectively within a team that is comprised of multiple stakeholders such as faculty, senior administration, staff and students;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and mentorship as an advocate for change and new ideas;
  • Willingness to engage with the institution and the faculty as a whole to share knowledge and expertise in their subject area.

 

Excellence in teaching, pedagogical inquiry, and educational innovation will be demonstrated through a strong teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, course evaluations, and a record of previous teaching accomplishments and innovations submitted as part of the application.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with or understanding of online educational learning and teaching including use of learning technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in various Learning Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with Apple IOS products.

The mission of the School of Nursing is to provide high quality, rigorous online and hybrid educational programs that prepare current practitioners to be transformational and innovative nurse leaders. This mission is accomplished by fostering evidence-based practice, promoting critical decision making, engendering effective interprofessional cooperation, collaboration, and practice, and being responsive to community healthcare needs. The School of Nursing offers a fully online RN to BSN, as well as hybrid DNP programs with specialties in Adult Gerontology Acute Care NP, FNP, and Nurse Anesthesiology. The fully online and hybrid programs are designed to meet the needs of working nurses.
