Job Summary
This is a part-time (60%) and one year limited term position that will be located in Talladega, AL. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
The Agent Assistant will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program for the Talladega County Extension Office. The Agent Assistant will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities. The Agent Assistant will follow and adapt when necessary, specific lesson plans designed to broaden youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities. Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth education sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. The Agent Assistant will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Regional Extension Agent in activities that benefit the youth of the counties.
Essential Functions
The successful applicant must have a demonstrated interest in working with youth ages 5-19 concerning a variety of issues. Must have a sincere interest in working with volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting, and the ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers while nurturing positive self-esteem, decision-making and leadership skills; ability to follow instructions related to work with minimum supervision from professional staff; a willingness to become familiar with and work within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System; and access to reliable transportation.
Effective communication and human relations skills; a working knowledge in operating a personal computer (i.e. software programs including Microsoft Word and Access) are all critical.
