Job Description

The University of Missouri Print & Mail Services department is looking for a full-time, benefit eligible, Print Finishing Technician (Bindery Operator I). This is a great opportunity to learn and grow within the printing department. This is a multi-role title that will assist will several job functions including but not limited to:

Print Finishing Technician (Bindery Operator I):

Duties include: Setup, operate, and maintain special purpose bindery equipment such as padders, gluer, punch, numbering machines, collators, drills, stitchers, tabbers, folder, cutter, perforator, etc. Assist in the operation of special purpose equipment or perform manual tasks as necessary to operate non-automatic stitching machines, staplers, hole punchers and/or perforators, etc. May wrap packages, assemble forms and related tasks associated with binding such as: table work including hand gathering, numbering, inserting, gluing and other small manual operations; feed pockets on binders and stitchers, take off items from binders and stitchers. Will need to be able to push, pull, press, twist and lift moderately heavy objects on a daily basis.

Deliver printed products to our campus customers. Requires a valid driver’s license and a good driving record to operate small to medium size delivery vehicles. Ability to operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, fork lifts, and other dock equipment as needed to facilitate the loading and offloading of materials. Must keep records of deliveries and perform other routine clerical and filing duties. Obtain authorized signatures for delivered and received items. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, turn, twist, and squat, repeatedly. Will be required to deliver large jobs with multiple boxes with weight variances.

Because of fluctuating workloads, it is common for staff to assist with other department operations such as assisting with mail operations and other various duties .

Helpful skills include:
Willing to operate a fork lift
Able to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly
Twist, Turn, and Squat
Good mechanical skills
Valid Driver’s license
Have a can-do attitude and be willing to work with a team
Detail oriented, self-starter, with a willingness to learn
Be willing to work overtime as needed

Salary

Starting Salary: $15.50 per hour

GGS Grade: C

Univeristy Title: BINDERY OPERATOR I

Shift

7:30am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday with overtime as needed

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
  • Six months of experience and training in general bindery work is necessary including set up and operation of punches, drills, numbering machines, collators and associated manual binding equipment. Two years of experience is preferred.
  • Ability to set up, operate and adjust multiple pieces of special purpose bindery equipment including: padders, micro numbering machines, collators, drills, floor stitcher, tabber, folder, perforator, cutters and cornering machines.
  • Ability to grasp, lift, carry and set down objects of medium weight (10-25 lbs.) on a daily basis.
