Responsibilities

The Director of Institutional Research (IR) has primary responsibility for the institutional research and reporting functions of the University and works with a great deal of independence. The purpose of institutional research is collect, maintain, and analyze information to assist institutional planning and decision making. The IR team develops and maintains internal and external resources and analytical tools for institutional research and provides information to the broader Mercer community through resources, reports and special projects. The director coordinates and/or supports university efforts in satisfying external reporting requirements, to include IPEDS, SACSCOC, and the Common Data Set. As a member of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE), the Director of Institutional Research also participates in the broader responsibilities of that office. This position will have supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

A master's degree from an accredited college/university is required along with three years of experience with statistical analysis, reporting, and/or data analysis of large datasets in a higher education setting. Candidates with a PhD in computer science, data analytics, higher education, institutional research, statistics, business, technical communications, social sciences, or related field are highly desirable. Candidates must have experience using statistical software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, SAS, R) and data visualization software (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau). Prior supervisory experience is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using statistical and data visualization software;
  • Ability to manage and analyze large datasets;
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodology;
  • Skills in writing analytical and technical reports and presenting complex technical/analytical concepts and information to a wide range of audiences;
  • Familiarity with higher education issues;
  • Ability to work with others to accurately identify data and informational needs;
  • Ability to deal responsibly with confidential information;
  • Commitment to accuracy and reporting integrity;
  • Ability to identify trends of significance to university decision makers;
  • Ability to manage time and resources to respond to competing priorities and ensure timely, accurate deliverables.
