Job Title: Head Coach, NCAA Beach Volleyball

Job Summary

The head coach oversees all aspects of the structure, leadership, and administration of the intercollegiate athletic program in a manner that aligns with the mission and values of the University and Athletics department. This position recruits and works to retain student-athletes; monitors student-athletes’ academic progress; strives for competitive success; manages the budget; oversees the coaching staff; and verifies the program’s compliance with University, Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) guidelines.

Student-Athlete Academic Success
  • Prioritizes, promotes, and actively supports student-athlete academic achievement
  • Manages and monitors all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program, including academic success, retention, and graduation progress; implements action plans with the appropriate academic staff when necessary
  • Follows appropriate academic policies and effectively collaborates with the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and NCAA academic coordinators to resolve conflicts
Competitive Success of Sport
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recruits student-athletes for success at Lindenwood University
  • Imparts to student-athletes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and knowledge essential to the sport
  • Produces a high-performing team capable of meeting and maintaining competitive expectations as determined by the University athletic administration
  • Acts in accordance with the athletic code of conduct and exhibits professional and sportsman-like manner
Administration
  • Maintains current knowledge of and adheres to the policies, procedures, bylaws, regulations, and rules of Lindenwood University, Intercollegiate Athletics, the NCAA, and Conference Office
  • Completes all program administrative responsibilities according to procedures
  • Operates a fiscally responsible program; provides leadership for the team’s fundraising activities and program advancement initiatives
  • Properly cares for, stores, distributes, and maintains a detailed inventory of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies
Communication, Collaboration, and Q2 Service Excellence
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork – and to Athletics values: responsible, original, all-encompassing, and relentless
  • Promotes and takes pride in the Athletics department
  • Anticipates needs of students, colleagues, and administrators; takes ownership to respond promptly
Community Relations and Engagement
  • Establishes effective relationships with the community while positively representing the program, department, and University
  • Creates experiential learning opportunities for student-athletes by actively engaging or participating in campus and/or community outreach projects and events
  • Maintains effective relationships with alumni and works to keep them engaged with the University
Employee Management and Development
  • Sets clear performance expectations for coaching staff and holds them accountable
  • Provides specific, ongoing, and sincere feedback to guide assistant coach’s performance
  • Encourages and supports assistant coaches toward engaging in professional growth opportunities in conjunction with the performance evaluation process and the establishment of development goals
  • Conducts thorough and timely performance evaluations based on evidence, observation, and feedback
  • Actively listens, seeks diversity of thought, and holds staff accountable for commitment to inclusive principles

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years’ collegiate coaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
