King Library: Business Librarian/Assistant or Associate will have primary responsibility for subject specialist and liaison services to academic departments and programs in the nationally recognized Farmer School of Business.  The Librarian serves as point of contact for these departments and programs for research assistance, library teaching, and collections needs.  The position is part of the Libraries’ Advise & Instruct department, working collaboratively to provide engaged research, teaching, and collections services to the university. Miami University recognizes that technology enables us to find new ways of providing first class service and workplace flexibility.  This position is approved for remote work on a part-time basis with occasional meetings on the Oxford, Ohio, campus and following a successful period of onboarding.  Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.

The Business Librarian/Assistant or Associate will:

  • Serve as library subject specialist and liaison to academic departments in the Farmer School of Business. Specific subject area duties are assigned according to library needs and the appointee's experience and interests;
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with faculty and students in liaison areas;
  • Provide general and specialized information consultation in assigned subject areas and support the Libraries' public service points;
  • Provide engaged library instruction using multiple modes (in-person, online, and asynchronous) and technologies as warranted to support curricula and research in assigned areas;
  • Provide collection development and management in assigned areas;
  • Provide excellent and collegial customer service;
  • Exhibit professional flexibility in a dynamic work environment;
  • Cooperate with colleagues to support and assist in library services across the system and university;
  • Monitor changing needs and trends in areas of responsibility.

Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program by date of appointment; analytical skills to aid in use of library information resources, technology problem solving, and decision-making; ability to work both independently and in teams, with all levels of staff and diverse library customers; proactive attitude, initiative, and ability to independently conceive and carry out projects; enthusiasm and capability to independently identify and develop new skills and professional competencies; ability to meet the Libraries' promotion and continuing contract requirements (see http://www.lib.miamioh.edu/about/larps.pdf). Appointment as Associate Librarian requires an established record of service and scholarship as described in these requirements.

Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with prior degree or coursework in a business discipline; one year prior professional business or business librarianship experience; strong written and oral communication skills; one year prior work experience in an academic or special library; one year prior work experience in public-facing or client service-oriented work environments; one year teaching experience, especially at the college level; experience in data management and analysis, statistical analysis methods; experience working with digital scholarship, emerging technologies, or scholarly communications issues.
