Department Summary
The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multi-disciplinary institute focused on understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. The PSI encompasses focus areas consistent with the field of prevention science, including prevention and intervention, and implementation science. Understanding effective intervention strategies and the outcomes associated with these interventions across multiple domains of functioning, including biological, social, and contextual, is the focus of research at the PSI. The core mission of the PSI is to improve the lives and well-being of children, individuals, and families throughout the lifespan. The PSI is committed to research that expands our understanding of interventions and development with diverse populations, and actively seeks to promote research that reduces health disparities in service utilization.
Position Summary
The Research Programmer and Data Manager (RPDM) is assigned to various projects at the PSI and is responsible for:
  • Writing custom programs to organize large research datasets spanning multiple years;
  • Creating scoring programs to summarize data as requested by researchers;
  • Writing documentation about datasets to facilitate data requests by researchers and students;
  • Assisting with student thesis and other data requests;
  • Coordinating data needs with other grant research sites and universities;
  • Creating custom data reports as requested;
  • Creating custom online questionnaires using online survey software such as Qualtrics as requested by research staff;
  • Assisting Assessment Coordinators with research tracking needs using custom Excel worksheets or REDCap; and
  • Creating custom program to clean physio and observation data.

    The RPDM provides support for projects includes acting as a resource to personnel accessing data; coordinating with methodologists; running routine descriptive analysis; cleaning, formatting, and preparing files for datasets; and conducting analysis as requested.

    This position reports to the Director of the Prevention Science Institute to assess data priorities and will oversee work of temporary and student staff.
    Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS degree in computer science, psychology, social science, or a related field with emphasis on data management and programming.
  • Two years of research experience or progressively responsible employment in a field applicable to research, or a combination of such training and experience.
  • Experience in computer programming including R, Python, SPSS, Excel.
  • Experience working in a behavior science environment, including longitudinal data collection.

  • Ability to work with users at remote locations to install interviews, transfer data, and troubleshoot data issues
  • Exceptional time management skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines and frequent interruptions while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism
  • Excellent planning and project prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills to obtain, provide, or exchange information with project collaborators and staff, including a capacity for sensitivity, confidentiality, and diligence with regard to personnel and human subjects information
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds as well as to develop knowledge of, respect for, those from a broad array of cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to represent the PSI in a professional manner with a diverse set of stakeholders including, investigators, staff, administrators, students, and research participants
  • Ability to manage complex environments in a calm, constructive, and professional manner
  • Ability to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics, REDCap.
  • Prior experience conducting systematic reviews or meta-analyses.
  • Proven experience using R, SPSS, SAS, Stata or other statistical analysis software.
  • Graduate level coursework/training in statistics and research methods.
