Job Description

Reporting to BEAM Department Head and the Director of Alumni Relations in the VT College of Engineering, the Alumni and External Relations Manager develops, coordinates, promotes, maintains and evaluates comprehensive alumni relations program that strategically aligns with the broader advancement (development, alumni relations, communications) and recruitment goals of the college and university. The Alumni and External Relations Manager will also serve as the primary liaison between the Department and industry partners cultivating relationships to support student engagement and career development. In addition, the position supports relations between the department and potential employers of program graduates, including organizing special events that promote interaction between students and potential employers. Working within the advancement model, this individual’s efforts must be strategically aligned to support the goals and priorities of the department, college, and broader university. Activities may be on or off campus, therefore some travel will be required. Additional responsibilities of this position include:
-Working with faculty in support of external visibility and relations, and interfaces with Advancement.
-Developing, coordinating and evaluating alumni relations programs and projects.
-Planning, coordinating, and attending special alumni relations related events, including recognition banquets, receptions, departmental homecoming events and alumni outings.
-Providing stewardship of alumni donors and friends of the department.
-Developing donor recognition programs.
-Works collaboratively with the Department Academic and Career Advisor by participating in recruiting activities for the Department.
-Communicating in a highly professional manner, with department faculty, university administrators, researchers, staff and students and with the many callers and visitors from outside the Virginia Tech community.
-Working with BEAM and College communication and development personnel to identify alumni, faculty, student, and industry partners, meetings, conference, etc.... to be highlighted or spotlighted.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree with relatable experience.
-Demonstrated excellence in writing/editing
-Demonstrated record of professional manner of communication.
-Demonstrated ability to develop, prepare, and deliver effective programs, seminars and workshops.
-Demonstrated computer skills, particularly related to data management, website maintenance and social media related to posting articles, event notification, and generally maintaining alumni and news sections of website.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality
-Excellent organizational skills, creativity, flexibility and self-motivation.
-Accurate attention to detail|
-Ability to work effectively with all university constituents

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience in Alumni Relations or working with alumni.
-Experience using BANNER family of administrative systems.
-Master's degree
