The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics at Georgia Southern University has two openings for a visiting instructor position of Chemistry and Biochemistry for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Within this setting, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers two ACS certified Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biochemistry as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry. The department also offers a Master of Science in Applied Physical Science with concentrations in pharmaceutical science, materials and coatings science, and environmental science. The Department is rapidly increasing its externally funded research activities and is housed in a recently reconfigured, 47,000 square foot facility containing modern classrooms with dedicated teaching and research laboratories on the Statesboro campus and a similar facility on the Armstrong campus. The department is comprised of 45 faculty who focus on high quality, student-centered undergraduate and graduate education that prepares students for careers in the chemical industry as well as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and education. The department is committed to both graduate and undergraduate research with the majority of undergraduate biochemistry and chemistry majors participating, thus furthering their preparedness for post-baccalaureate studies in many fields. Position Description: Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor of chemistry and biochemistry will have teaching responsibilities with a five course load requirement per term. This is an academic year appointment for the months of August 2022 through May 2023. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments, with the possibility of reappointment based on funding availability and satisfactory performance for up to two years. The second year is a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry or Biochemistry by August 1, 2022.

  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

    Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
  • All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
