North Carolina State Bar membership in good standing, or licensure in good standing in another state on the date of initial employment and licensure to practice law in North Carolina within one year following initial employment date pursuant to The University of North Carolina Policy Manual, section 300.1.3. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Counsel of Appalachian State, the Real Property Attorney shall perform the following duties:
Typical physical demands of a professional position within an office environment.
Specifically:
Walking: Ability to get to meetings in other offices in same and other buildings across campus.
Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily withfingers rather than the whole hand as in handling.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Thoseactivities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with orwithout correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make meaningful discriminations in sound.
Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hand, and/orfingers. Special Instructions to Applicants

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school;
- Active North Carolina State Bar membership in good standing, or active licensure in good standing in another state on the date of initial employment and licensure to practice law in North Carolina within one (1) year following the date of initial employment;
- A minimum of five (5) years of legal practice experience in real estate contract review, drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements and/or construction contracts;
- A thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and vision of the University;
- Knowledge of and experience with the broad spectrum of statutes, regulations and legal procedures relevant to a college or university's operations;
- Professionalism and an understanding of corporate culture;
- Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and with all levels of management; and
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners and other office equipment.

Reporting to the General Counsel of Appalachian State, the Real Property Attorney shall perform the following duties:
- In collaboration with the Director of the Property Office, reviewing, redlining, and negotiating a broad range of real estate documents and transactions including but not limited to development agreements, land acquisition, subdivision, zoning, easements, rights of entry, rights of way, leases, licenses, co-location, public way rights;
- Reviewing, redlining and drafting a wide range of complex commercial contracts, corporate entity documents and filings;
- Working collaboratively with Facilities Management and the Office of Planning, Design, and Construction to obtain real property surveys, environmental reports and title policies in connection with University acquisitions;
- Manage legal documents for multiple multi-faceted real estate and construction projects simultaneously and on expedited schedules;
- Effectively facilitate discussion of land and property issues and action plans with appropriate administrators, directors, faculty, staff and program areas to ensure that all facets of an issue are addressed;
- Working collaboratively with the University's Property Manager to plan and develop Property Office program goals and objectives for the administration of real property acquisitions, planning, and development;
- Assist the Director of the Property Office with establishing and implementing policies, standards and procedures relative to the real property acquisition and development;
- Assist the Director of the Property Office with establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the University's leased space and oversee leased space;
- Maintain well organized and complete records of all real property matters;
- Maintaining good working relationships with campus partners to facilitate successful contract negotiations and real property transactions;
- Consult with and advise the General Counsel and other senior administrators on real property matters pertaining to applicable laws, regulations, mandates, and other duties under the law;
- Consult with the General Counsel and other senior administrators on matters relating to land and real property management and development;
- Assist in the coordination of long-range planning for the University's real property holdings and related matters;
- Prepare presentations, as needed, for University constituents;
- Lead special project initiatives relative to land and property matters.
