Summary

Engages in in-depth financial analysis and reporting; produces complex financial projections and specialized financial reports; participates in cost-accounting activities, including price and budget development for the HGSC's Specialized Service Facility (SSF), which generates sequencing data for Center's research programs. Develops and maintains databases and reporting tools to automate complex and/or repetitive processes.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional Excel skills as well proficiency with Macros, and advanced experience using database development (MS Access) and programming skills (VBA/SQL/HANA/Oracle DBs) to drive process improvement requirements. An Excel test will be administered as part of the interview process.

Job Duties
  • Develops detailed cost tables and rolled-up pricing for the variety of services offered by the HGSC Specialized Services Facility (SSF).
  • Analyzes actual SSF costs and prepares periodic reports comparing SSF prices to actual production costs.
  • Participates in Sample Intake process for the Center - estimating project costs and reconciling with available funds.
  • Maintains and updates finance and pricing databases for use in month-end close, billing, and monthly reporting.
  • Participates in month-end General Ledger close process for the SSF (~$2M-$4M per month).
  • Partners with faculty and/or project managers to prepares budgets for research projects and grant applications.
  • Evaluates business processes to identify inefficiencies and initiates improvement by collaborating with stakeholders to define requirements for future state.
  • Improves and/or redesigns financial processes utilizing advanced skills in MS Excel/Access, macro development (VBA/SQL), process automation, and data analytics.
  • Participates in annual budget preparation for the Center.
  • Compiles, reviews, and reconciles financial accounts; analyzes financial data for variance, budget position, etc.
  • Reviews and approves financial entries and transactions, such as journal entries or purchase orders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Finance or a related field and two years of relevant experience may also be considered.
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles and cost-accounting, and a deep knowledge of FP&A lifecycle, including planning, budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and finance analytics.
  • Exceptional Excel skills are required, as well proficiency with Macros, and Access or other databases.
  • Advanced experience using database development (MS Access) and programming skills (VBA/SQL/HANA/Oracle DBs) to drive process improvement requirements.
  • Experience in healthcare/life science industries or higher education.
  • Clear ability to innovate and drive change.
  • Skilled at developing strong relationships and working collaboratively with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
