Summary

The Director of Business Operations for Baylor College of Medicine School of Medicine at Temple (BCMT) is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the financial, human resources, and administrative aspects of the BCM Temple Campus Operating Unit as stated in the BCM/BSWH Affiliation Agreement. This position is expected to work with leaders at both BSWH and BCM in order to build a consistent partnership that supports the BCMT strategic and annual plans, key performance metrics that align with BCM and SOM mission and goals and enhances transparency.

This will be achieved through the implementation of standardized processes of the administrative functions and data capture as well as responsibility for the financial oversight of the BCM Temple Campus Operating Unit. Financial responsibilities include but are not limited to: Education effort allocation, scholarships and expense management, reporting, and variation analysis.

The Director of Business Operations will support the academic programs housed at BCMT including the coordination of annual budgets, administrative support for HR functions, the implementation of various compliance processes, and the transparency of financial metrics and other related pertinent data. This role, in collaboration with BSWH and BCM leadership, will establish and annually coordinate a comprehensive budgeting process including the projections of both revenues and expenses of the BCM Temple Campus Operating Unit, as well as develop and implement a robust financial tracking system that will enable timely and accurate reporting and projections. This position will be formally responsible for direct supervision of staff and for facilitating decisions across multi-discipline/multi-institution teams regarding operations of the BCM Temple Campus Operating Unit.

This role reports formally to the BCMT Regional Dean with a matrix report to the BCM SOM Administrator. Additionally, this role will have accountability to the BCM and BSWH Chief Financial Officers. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

Work Location:
This position will primarily work in Temple, Texas with some occasional travel to Houston, Texas.

Job Duties

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

  • Contributes to development of short and long-term strategic business plans and budget that are in alignment with overall institutional and SOM priorities. Provides budget proposal for leadership review and approval.
Budget and Financial Management:

  • Leads BCM SOM Temple Campus financial and budgeting functions. All financial activities for BCMT flow through this position.
Human Resources and Administrative Services:

  • Oversees the HR function at BCMT, including providing or referring faculty, staff and students to HR and administrative services. Where applicable, triages requests and directs faculty, staff, and students to the appropriate service provider.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience will also be considered.
  • Progressively responsible management experience in administrative management, to include proficiency in budgeting, administration, and personnel management.
  • Experience in higher education a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel.
