Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of History at Wheaton College in Norton, MA, invites
applications for a one-year (renewable for a second-year) Visiting
Assistant Professor position in modern US History, with expertise
and/or teaching experience in African-American History, beginning
in the Fall of 2022 (contract starting July 1, 2022).
The faculty member in this position will teach three courses per
semester, for a total of six courses per year. The course load will
include an upper-level seminar in Fall 2022 and the second half of
the US history survey (1877 to present) in Spring 2023. The other
four courses will be a combination of introductory and mid-level
courses, which may include the first half of the US history survey
in Fall 2022.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to teach
an introductory survey course in African history in Fall
All courses are expected to be taught in-person, on campus.
The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree and be ABD in
modern US history at the time of appointment, have experience
teaching at the college level, and have the ability to interact
with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff.
