The ETSU Counseling Center is conducting a search for the Counseling Center Director. The Director of the ETSU Counseling Center provides creative leadership and vision to support and enhance the operations of the ETSU Counseling Center in providing high quality and timely mental health services and effective outreach programming to meet the needs of the University’s diverse student population. The Director is responsible for:

  • The development and implementation of Counseling Center policies and procedures
  • The recruitment and supervision of the staff
  • Accomplishing divisional goals and objectives
  • Managing the Counseling Center budget
  • Developing strategic plans
  • Producing a variety of reports including annual reports to the Assistant VP of Student Life and Enrollment
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

 

The Director serves a key role in leading ETSU in preparation and response to campus crises and serves on several University committees including the Threat Assessment Team, the CARE Team, and leads the Campus Mental Health Collaborative. The Director collaborates with other campus partners and is a key member of the Division of Student Life and Enrollment, engaging in divisional support and activities, and serving as liaison to other departments, administrators, faculty, students, staff, and parents on mental health issues, policies and practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to research, produce, and analyze data and information to make sound recommendations and decisions regarding Counseling Center services
  • Knowledge of current professional research and best practices related to Counseling Center practices, Student Life and Enrollment collaboration, and University planning
  • Ability to set priorities to achieve objectives and to manage multiple, diverse assignments/projects
  • Knowledge of professional ethical and legal requirements, state law, HIPAA, FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory compliance issues
  • Ability to skillfully manage fiscal budget
  • Strong leadership and supervisory and interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive peer relationships with staff and promote a collaborative work environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skill and commitment to cultural competency and intersectionality within a diverse campus community environment
  • Ability to seek and maintain professional partnerships with multiple systems, community and university-based constituents and stakeholders
  • Strong clinical counseling knowledge and skills regarding counseling theories and techniques, crisis intervention, individual/couples/group psychotherapy
  • Excellent grasp of psychopathology, diagnostic systems, risk assessment, and threat assessment
  • Knowledge of threat assessment practices
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision to training interns and non-licensed clinical staff
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal) skills
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to lead group discussions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and HIPAA Zoom platform
  • Employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy in addition to three (3) years of professional experience in a college/university Counseling Center OR Master’s Degree with five (5) years of professional experience in a college/university Counseling Center.
  • Must have demonstrated administrative experience in leadership, supervision, training evaluation, program assessment, strategic planning and financial management and reporting
  • Must have licensure as a Professional Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Psychologist and hold Tennessee licensure within one year of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
