Job Summary
Facilities Management at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the Pipe Trades I position! This role provides sub-journey level support for work unit by installing, removing, altering, testing, and repairing plumbing, steam and civil utilities system components.

Who We Are
Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Civil Utility Preventive Maintenance & Support
  • Perform preventive maintenance of civil utilities including but not limited to; valve exercising, fire hydrant testing and repair, jetting and videoing of sanitary and storm systems, storm inlet cleaning and signage, sand and oil interceptor inspections and servicing.
  • Assist level II employees to make repairs, support project outages and other duties as required to support the civil utilities' system.

Steam System Preventive Maintenance & Support
  • Provide support to level II employees engaged in maintenance of steam traps, scheduled steam outages and piping projects.

General Plumbing System Maintenance & Support
  • Assist level II employees with scheduled plumbing system outages, piping projects and plumbing system problem analysis.
  • Maintain, repair, or replace plumbing system components.

Paperwork/Scheduling
  • Responsible for completing material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure any material needed for the position’s workload.
  • Limited to a $1,000 per event purchase at the FM Construction Stores without the approval of their supervisor.
  • Provided 15 minutes at the beginning and/or end of each workday to complete their timecard, close out work orders, and to schedule their work for the following day. Timecards must be completed daily.
  • Required to include closing comments and ensure any repair work orders are created when closing work orders.
  • Respond on an “as needed” basis; this may also include the alternative work schedules and/or responding to after-hours emergencies.
  • Provide a phone number to the Facilities’ Operations management team to be used as a means of contact for after-hours calls to ensure the position is able to fulfill the requirements of an essential services employee.
  • With all duties within this PDQ, the employee is required to drive a University vehicle, carry tools, and materials.

  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement . New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • This is an in-person position.
  • Work schedule: Monday - Friday. The initial hours will be from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm and then this position will be moved to a second shift schedule. Eligible for shift and overtime pay. This position may be asked to work additional shifts as needed. This could include nights, weekends, and holidays.

What We Require
  • Two years of progressively responsible pipe and/or mechanical trades experience related to the work assignment.
    • Substitutions: At the agency’s discretion, successful completion of a formalized plumbing, pipefitting, steamfitting, or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be a Colorado resident.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Backflow prevention certification – State of Colorado.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
