One-year Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of History beginning on September 16, 2022, through June 15, 2023. The position is open to historians of the Ancient Near East or Mediterranean, including Egypt. The successful candidate will teach seven courses over three quarters.

Required Qualifications

  • ABD and the ability to teach an introductory regional survey, an upper-division course on ancient empires, and additional undergraduate courses according to candidate’s areas of specialization and departmental needs
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues, including a commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in the history of the Ancient Near East or Mediterranean or a related field.

The Department of History at Western Washington University consists of twenty-two tenured or tenure-track faculty whose courses serve a very active history major and make significant contributions to the university’s general education curriculum. Faculty in the department provide high-quality courses that prepare majors and non-majors with skills in research, analysis, and writing. The department offers majors in History, History/Social Studies, Elementary Education, and a combined degree with Latin American Studies. The department likewise houses a small but strong M.A. program in history as well as a number of undergraduate minors.
