Summary

VCU’s Facilities Management Department is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of Support Services.

The Assistant Director of Support Services provides leadership oversight for operations that are contracted services to include, but are not limited to: custodial, pest control, waste management, recycling, window washing, and medical waste disposal. The Assistant Director directs the Groundskeeping unit, inclement weather events, as well as the Lockshop, with the goal of reducing response time to critical requests by customers. The Assistant Director of Support Services is responsible for the GovDeals and Surplus Property program for the University; manages and oversees the Inventory and Warehouse Management program; and manages the housekeeping web-based software program.

The Assistant Director of Support Services fosters teamwork and communication with direct reports and within Facility Operations; develops best practices for divisional responsibilities; establishes cross-training between landscaping, custodial, lock shop, and other related trades and work areas; and develops and builds warehousing plus inventory by making it a critical part of workflow within Facilities Operations.

Minimum Hiring Standards
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in positions in operations and/or facilities management
  • Minimum of five years of progressive supervisory experience and able to demonstrate effective leadership
  • General knowledge in financial and contractual work at the state government level
  • Ability to plan, assign, and lead the work of a varied group of skilled and semi-skilled workers
  • Ability to set priorities, develop and manage budgets, and oversee contractors
  • Experience in at least one public sector procurement process
  • Proficient in the use of technology with emphasis on personal computer skills
  • Strong leader with excellent communications attributes and customer service focus
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or associated field preferred
