The Department of Campus Life at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Program Coordinator for Civic Engagement and Community Service.

In an ongoing commitment to staff well-being, the Program Coordinator has the opportunity to work a partial remote schedule of 4 days in office and 1 day remotely per work week during the academic year. Flexible remote work time during breaks in the academic schedule are also offered.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Maintain SUNY Oswego’s relationships with national and regional civic engagement organizations and competitions
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to support longstanding College initiatives such as Vote Oswego, Constitution Day, etc.
  • Actively participate with the College’s Civic Engagement Coalition
  • Develop a community service program that is rooted in the leadership model of the department, and provides students the opportunity to engage in the assessment of, and contribution to solving community issues. This includes managing current programs like Alternative Breaks and developing and facilitating new opportunities that provide for a synergy of civic engagement and service
  • Create and maintain a system to record and track community service performed by students for campus reporting requirements
  • Develop strategies that support achievement of the department’s learning outcomes. Utilize assessment to demonstrate the effectiveness and impact of these strategies while also identifying areas for continued improvement
  • Collaborate with staff within the Department of Student Engagement and Leadership to provide holistic development opportunities for student leaders and student led organizations along with residential and off campus students
  • Assist with department and campus-wide leadership initiatives and programs
  • Provide supervision and/or guidance to Graduate Assistants, Student Interns, Volunteers and Group Leaders as directed by the Assistant Director of Leadership Development
  • Assist the assistant director with assessment and evaluation efforts within the department
  • Serve on divisional and college-wide committees as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree at time of appointment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant post-graduate degree and/or 1-3 years professional experience in higher education, civic education, or applicable field
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through co-curricular programs
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to increase student sense of belonging and engagement
  • Ability to understand and apply student development theory and learning outcomes
  • Experience in event coordination and production and program planning and implementation
  • Effective organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with computer-based communication and programs
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive and confidential issues
  • Assessment and referral skills. Ability to access training, in-service needs, provide consultation, arrange/facilitate training and seminars
  • Mediation and behavioral management skills
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures, college policy, and state and federal laws related to student organizations and their activities
  • Knowledge of student support programs and services and crisis intervention techniques
  • Knowledge of emergency/disaster/ recovery plans. Ability to react effectively in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
