Position Summary:
The Chief Government, Community and Corporate Relations Officer (CGCCRO)is responsible for establishing and maintaining constructive working relationships with elected officials and the staffs of the legislative and executive branches of government within the Commonwealth of Kentucky and among Kentucky's federal delegation in Washington, D.C. The position will also establish relationships with local government officials to effectively promote EKU within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The incumbent is also responsible to positioning the institution to be a first choice partner with private sector businesses and serve as the institutional lead for economic development activities. The CGCCRO will be a key member of the executive leadership team.

Minimum Education:
  • Master’s Degree in Public Relations, Political Science, Corporate Communications or a related field is required.


Minimum Experience:
  • 10 years of professional/executive level experience with responsibilities considered complimentary to position is required.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Federal and/or Kentucky government relations experience is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the legislative process. Excellent written and oral communication skills is preferred.
  • Proficient in common computer applications including Word, PowerPoint and Excel is preferred.


Job Functions:
Assist in the development of EKU's legislative agendas in Frankfort and Washington, D.C. and promote that agenda. Maintain an EKU presence in Frankfort and Washington to keep regular communication with officials and their staff.
Assist in the development and implementation of a legislative advocacy program and serve as the primary point of contact with Alumni Affairs staff.
Provide pertinent information relative to EKU matters upon request to elected officials and legislative and executive branch staff.
Track federal and state legislation and communicate with the campus about legislative initiatives that impact higher education.
Manage all communications provided via EKU's Government, Community and Corporate Relations channels.
Maintain effective communication with government relations officers from other Kentucky universities.
Work effectively with faculty and staff across the campus on legislative matters that impact higher education and EKU specifically.
Develop contacts with local officials and community leaders to best facilitate opportunities for partnerships with EKU.
Develop contacts with local and regional economic development and corporate partners to best facilitate opportunities for EKU to be the first choice partner.
Supports the office functions by completing all other duties and special projects as assigned.
