The Director of Student Conduct articulates and interprets community standards based upon the University’s mission and values.  This role partners with the University community to develop innovative strategies to manage and adjudicate student conduct for students and student organizations that is fair, impartial, non-adversarial, restorative and educational in manner. The goal is to create and maintain a campus environment conducive to students’ academic success, personal growth, safety and well-being.

Focused on student community success, the Director serves as a resource in addressing student behavior, develops and interprets data to monitor trends, provides relevant education to the community and ensures compliance with relevant SUNY policies, and state and federal laws and mandates. The Director is responsible for communications with students and families participating in the student conduct process and serves as the liaison with local law enforcement, attorneys, and the district attorneys' offices.  The Director is an important team builder on campus maintaining critical relationships with campus partners including faculty, Fraternity and Sorority Life, University Police, Residential Life, Title IX, and the CARE Team.

The Director of Student Conduct provides leadership, oversight and direction for Binghamton University's Office of Student Conduct, including supervision of professional staff, graduate assistants, and student interns.  This position works in collaboration with students (including members of the conduct board and student advocates) to uphold the standards of the University through student education and accountability. This position also oversees the Student Conflict and Dispute Management Program.

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Master’s degree in student personnel administration, higher education or a related field
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in student affairs or related field
  • Cultural competence with ability to lead in a dynamic community with a diverse student body
  • Well-versed in current laws and guidance pertaining to FERPA, Title IX, VAWA and other applicable regulatory provisions
  • Strong organizational, management, supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Critical thinking skills including policy analysis and interpretation
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate and organized records and files
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and present data
  • Computer literacy and database experience
  • Experience developing and implementing training sessions
  • Ability to maintain and complete tasks in a timely manner

PREFERRED:

  • Terminal Degree
  • Experience with Maxient software
  • Previous attendance at national level student conduct trainings/ programs
