Position Summary

The Coordinator of Scholarship Support and Retention reports to the Associate Director of Scholarship Support and Retention and assists with scholarship initiatives in the Student Support and Retention area of the Classroom to Career Hub. By employing best-practices grounded in current retention theories, the coordinator will provide program management, advising, workshops, academic support, and other direct services to multiple cohorts of scholarship recipients. This position will provide education and outreach to students and staff regarding scholarship opportunities. The Coordinator will also collaborate with MSU Denver Financial Aid and University Advancement to identify and award scholarship recipients for each year.

Duties/Responsibilities

(55%) Scholarship Support and Program Management:
  • Collaborate with the Classroom to Career Hub team and with academic department chairs, faculty, deans, and staff as appropriate to implement comprehensive support for a wide array of scholarship opportunities at MSU Denver such as: Reisher, COSI, Daniels Fund, Boundless Opportunity, and additional scholarships that require wrap-around support.
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid and University Advancement to identify and award scholarship recipients for each year in accordance with current financial aid policies and regulations. Collaborate with the COSI grant team housed at MSU Denver in order to develop best practices for wrap-around support for all scholarship recipients at MSU Denver.
  • Manage scholarship programmatic elements including: fiscal oversight of designated foundation scholarship and programming accounts and management of scholarship peer mentors.
  • Provide direct services to scholars within caseload in support of their retention and graduation at MSU Denver. Monitor student progress towards meeting scholarship program requirements and provide support as needed.
(10%) Internal MSU Denver Scholarship Outreach and Marketing:
  • Collaborate with Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to ensure that students have equitable access to scholarships and institutional aid. Educate the campus community on scholarship opportunities for students. Provide opportunities for students to learn about the scholarship process and receive support in applying for aid, including hosting FAFSA and Scholarship Workshops. Recruit students to apply for scholarship opportunities.
(10%) External Community Outreach:
  • Coordinate and maintain close working relationships with University Advancement, Office of Sponsorships and Grants, and Donors to seek out scholarship opportunities through grant applications and by cultivating donor support and to support MSU Denver students who receive external scholarships. Meet with scholarship partners and provide data and information as outlined in Memoranda of Understanding (MOU’s). Visit Community Colleges in collaboration with Transfer Student Success to market relevant scholarship opportunities to incoming transfer students.
(10%) Data Management and Strategic Planning:
  • The Coordinator will collaborate with Classroom to Career Hub colleagues, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, MSU Denver Advancement, and the University Business Intelligence unit, and other constituents to gather, track, and analyze data associated with the scholarship program. This position will maintain internal program databases and create any additionally needed data management tools. This position will report appropriate data to any relevant stakeholders, including required end-of-year reports and data sharing agreements with campus and community partners.
(10%) Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned:
  • The Coordinator will remain current with regard to trends and developments in higher education and high-impact practices related to scholarship support. The Coordinator will remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, the development of professional contacts with colleagues, attendance at professional development courses/conferences, and trainings as directed by the Supervisor. The Coordinator will represent the interests of the Classroom to Career Hub and will perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Scholarship and Retention Programs, including but not limited to service on various University committees/taskforces related to student retention and academic support issues and/or event planning.
(5%) Supervision of student staff:
  • Hire, train supervise, and evaluate student staff as necessary to support programming and support initiatives within the program.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience providing advising, counseling, academic support, or advocacy in education
  • Experience working with a diverse student body (including, but not limited to: working adults, women, persons with disabilities, active duty/veteran military personnel, students with multiple and varying ethnic, racial and national backgrounds, etc.) to increase student retention and completion.

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working in a student retention program
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience working with a higher education scholarship initiative
  • Experience supervising para-professional staff
  • Experience with tracking data and program assessment
  • Experience providing students with financial aid information, including packaging requirements and financial literacy
  • Experience collaborating with donors or community-based organizations that provide scholarships or supports focused on college access
  • Proficiency in Oral and Written Spanish
