This position will be responsible for
recruiting, advising, processing, and evaluating international
student applications. This will include students enrolling in
undergraduate and graduate degrees but primarily focused on
graduate applications. The International Admissions Counselor will
counsel students throughout the recruitment cycle, from inquiry to
enrollment status, and will also help students when they arrive in
the U.S. for the first time to pick them up from the airport and
get them settled into their dorms or residences. Having the ability
to be proactive, to communicate promptly with students, make
admissions decisions, assist students with financial documentation,
meet with students and families and work closely with partnership
programs is a necessity. The International Admissions Counselor
will be responsible to manage recruitment strategies to meet the
international enrollment goals while complying with state and
federal accreditations, university and federal immigration policies
and regulations.
This position will require traveling
locally, regionally, nationally, and overseas, as needed. This
position will also serve as the Designated School Official (DSO)
through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System
(SEVIS). Applicant must have U.S. citizenship or permanent
residency status.
Principal Duties
& Responsibilities:
Build relationships to grow incoming
international student enrollment
Recruit international students and
process international admission applications, advise applicants of
program options and admission requirements
Process student files, conduct
credential evaluation and GPA calculations, and issue
Acceptance/Denial decisions
Promptly and courteously, respond to
phone calls, emails, and other requests from students
Be the main point of contact and
processor for the hybrid graduate program for international
students
Some weekend hours might be required
during hybrid residency weekends
Collaborate with co-workers regarding
new recruitment strategies, make suggestions on new strategies to
increase marketing opportunities for international recruitment
Serve as one of the DSOs for Indiana
Tech
Process immigration documents in
compliance with Homeland Security Regulations
Travel abroad for international
student recruitment and represent Indiana Tech in the international
higher education community when needed
Stay up-to-date on
government/legislative changes pertaining to international higher
education
Utilize recruitment tools such as
social media platforms, personal contacts, international
educational fairs, presentations, etc.
Maintain and update international
student files with the assistance of admission reports.
Assist in the development and
execution of the international recruitment plan and the
international orientations
Advise and assist current
international students to maintain their F1 immigration status when
needed
Collaborate with other departments to
assist in recruitment and enrollment efforts
Work with international partners
institutions on collaborative projects
Sit on campus-wide committees as
requested/required
Support the mission, vision, and
strategic plan of Indiana Institute of Technology
Perform other duties as requested by
the Director
Qualifications
Bachelors degree required
Two to five years of experience
working in an international admissions or international programs
office, preferred
General understanding of
international recruitment and education systems, preferred
Strong communication skills,
creativity, the ability to work in a results-oriented group, strong
interpersonal skills, in-depth understanding of diverse cultures,
and the ability to learn independently
Experience in working with partner
institutions and government-sponsored international students,
preferred
Basic knowledge of the F-1 student
visa processing, preferred
Minimum of one year experience with
SEVIS as a DSO in international admissions or an international
programs office preferred
Must have U.S. citizenship or Legal
Permanent Residency as per U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE) guidelines for DSO and ARO.
Must have an interest in building a
rapport with prospective and current international student
populations at the university.
Sensitivity to, and understanding of,
the needs and concerns of a diverse international population and
respectful of different cultures
Must have a valid US drivers license
and be insurable for driving company vehicles.
Working
Conditions
Work is normally performed in a
typical interior/office work environment with occasional domestic
and international travel required. Extended travel may be required
during the recruitment season.
