Starting Pay Rate: Per Adjunct Faculty Pay Scale

Schedule Information: The faculty member selected will be expected to conduct and teach vocal students in:

MUS 130 Concert Choir, which meets every Monday and Wednesday during the 16-week semester from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm and gives a minimum of one concert each semester. 3 contact hours each week.

MUS 145 SPECTRA (a small vocal ensemble of 12 select students), which meets every Monday and Wednesday during the 16-week semester from 10:00 am to 10:50 am and gives a minimum of one concert each semester. 3 contact hours each week

Job Description: The Department of Music at Harper College, a two-year institution located 20 miles northwest of Chicago, seeks a faculty member for an adjunct faculty position. Candidates should possess expertise in areas such as choral music ensemble direction and planning, curriculum development (including writing syllabi), and developing/teaching music classes using traditional and alternative delivery methods.

The successful candidate will have a load consisting chiefly of MUS 130 Concert Choir (3 contact hours) and MUS 145 SPECTRA (a small vocal ensemble of 12 select singers) (3 contact hours).

With a faculty of more than fifty artists and scholars brought together from institutions from around the world, every facet of our program is guided by recognized expertise. Members of the performance faculty in the Department of Music maintain active careers ranging from appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony Orchestra, and many others, to a wide variety of professional chamber ensembles and solo appearances.

Complementing a high level of excellence in performance, the Department of Music maintains a similar tradition of academic excellence in the classroom. It is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with recognized transfer programs in music. The combination of a strong curriculum and a thoroughly dedicated faculty provides students with the constant guidance of experienced professionals and the tools for future success.

Education Requirements: Masters degree in music or music education or the equivalent.

Experience Requirements: Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience teaching and conducting vocal ensembles at the secondary and/or college levels.
