GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs custodial tasks within the guideline of federal state and local laws and office, division and college policies and procedures, supervisory instructions, accepted trade practices, chemical directions, and work orders. Reports to the manager of custodial services or other designated person and works with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students to provide maintenance support.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs custodial tasks: sweeps mops, strips, waxes, buffs floors and cleans carpets; dusts and cleans rooms, stairwells and kitchens; vacuums areas; empties trash; polishes fixtures and drinking fountains.
2. Cleans porches and terraces.
3. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, public areas, hallways, stairwells and meeting rooms.
4. Works as a part of a team to perform heavy cleaning of residence halls between semesters, and administrative buildings during breaks.
5. Maintains assigned building supply closets and chemical inventories.


REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School diploma or GED required. Trade school preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year custodial experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Familiarity with proper use of methods and materials in cleaning and caring for assigned buildings and areas.
* Ability to read and perform basic mathematics.
* Demonstrated willingness and ability to work independently and under unpleasant conditions such as in dusty and dirty areas, to adhere to standards and plans, and to maintain confidentiality.
* Interacts well with peers and customers.
* Ability to drive standard shift vehicles.
* Possess or have ability to obtain a valid state operator/driver's license for the type vehicle or equipment operated, including a standard-shift truck.
* Ability to work irregular and on-call hours, overtime may be required as events or needs of the college are determined.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, bending, crawling, walking, lifting objects up to 30 pounds, climbing ladders, using tools and equipment that require a high degree of manual dexterity, and ability to distinguish between shades of color. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to noise, chemicals, inclement weather, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts requiring the use of protective devices.
