General Summary: Career Community Coaches are assigned to select career fields and serve as coaches, connectors and conveners of undergraduate students, graduate students, employers, alumnae and faculty within assigned communities. Role is responsible for creating physical and virtual communities that educate students on career possibilities, skills, and strategies for success as well as providing connections to networking and recruiting within assigned career fields. Career Coaches will work closely with others to design, execute and communicate events and opportunities that appeal to students' future success. Coaches will aim to split engagement time 50/50 between employers and students depending upon academic schedule.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Serves as career specialist within Health and Sciences Career Community, maintaining current information on workplace/recruiting practices, timelines, industry trends, as well as essential knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  2. Maintains professional knowledge by interacting with employers regularly via participation in relevant professional associations, media, etc.
  3. Provides timely advice, information about local networking events, and career prep materials in accordance with the recruiting pattern, practice, and timeline for a variety of health careers.
  4. Facilitates one-on-one and group coaching to educate and prepare students on successful internship / job search strategy, research resources, networking techniques, interview preparation and offer negotiation.
  5. Collaborates with other coaches to design, develop, and present education materials/workshops on relevant topics. Adjusts and adapts learning approach to the needs of a diverse study body.
  6. Identifies new employers for the career community, while working diligently to bridge gaps by finding employers that fit students' interests and academic preparation.
  7. Collaborates closely with Asst Director, Internship Programs to cultivate and evaluate opportunities that lead to secure and relevant internships for undergraduate and graduate students.
  8. Engages relevant employers in innovative ways (interview preparation, mentoring pods, career treks, etc.) that build and maintain strong relationships through the use of programs, events, and services.
  9. Increases internship, research, fellowship and full-time recruiting efforts by promoting Agnes Scott students to local, regional, and national employers related to the career community.
  10. Coordinates with Director of Health Professions Advising and Partnerships, Director Mentored Research and faculty to build student career literacy and preparedness, especially for relevant majors.
  11. Utilizes feedback loops to share learning about student preparation, transferable skills, and opportunities with Summit and Faculty Advisors as member of the student board of advisors.
  12. Collaborates with faculty and other staff as needed to identify and foster relevant alumnae relationships for participation in SUMMIT Career Connect and employer cultivation.
  13. Cooperates closely with staff, faculty, student clubs, and community partners to create and execute on and off-campus events regularly. Creates and oversee logistical components for community-specific events.
  14. Curates a variety of tools (email, LinkedIn, campus portal, website, canvas LMS) to create relevant content for health careers that promote, engage, and educate students on career information or opportunities.
  15. Works with Asst. Director, Marketing and Operations to include engaging, accurate and timely information in career community newsletters/flyers/social media.
  16. Maintains accurate records using multiple systems (smartsheet, starfish, etc.) in compliance with FERPA and other campus protocols.
  17. Serves on relevant cross-functional teams and/or as liaison to departments to promote the vision and direction of post-graduate success.


REQUIREMENTS

Education : Bachelors degree in an appropriate and/or related field is required. Masters degree preferred
Experience : 2-4 years of relevant experience in education, career services, or recruiting in health or other technical sectors
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
  • Knowledge of career/professional development and coaching especially as it relates to entry-level professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to build trust and interact in a positive, helpful manner.
  • Ability to work efficiently, assess and shift priorities as needed or directed, and adapt to rapidly changing environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write and convey clear, concise, accurate and effective messaging to diverse populations. Experience working with students and employers preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment to meet established goals.
  • Highly organized with an ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Strong intercultural competence and a desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds at various levels of development and experience.
  • Strong digital skills with ability to adapt to new technological modes of communication, scheduling, record-keeping and digital updates. Familiarity with professional platforms, especially LinkedIn.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality as required by FERPA and institutional standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, moving of light objects. Work is performed in an office.
