Description:
The primary responsibility is to teach up to 10 units (part-time) in assigned discipline. Under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction, Arts, Humanities and Multimedia TrAC, the primary responsibilities of this position include show direction and production, planning, supervising, evaluating and instructing general education classes which may include theatre appreciation, and acting classes.
The Arts and Communication Division includes the Visual and Performing Arts, Communication Studies, Graphic Arts, and Theatre Facilities. Division responsibilities also include the staffing and management of the College's three theaters.
The Drama Department offers courses in theatre appreciation, theatre history and literature, acting, voice production, movement, children's theatre, musical theatre and technical theatre as well as an extensive production program.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Direct at least two productions per year.
Teach all levels of acting.
Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of reports, budgets, audit information and other required data.
Teach theatre appreciation, and other drama courses such as but not limited to voice production, movement, acting for the camera, and musical theater.
Assist in the design, development and evaluation of courses, materials and programs.
Assist the Division Dean to cooperate with campus and community groups to provide information, courses and programs relevant to the needs of the students in the Drama Program.
Assist in marketing and promoting the Drama Program by participating in college sponsored events and by visiting local communities and schools.
Participate in Arts and Communication Division activities, including student advisement and committee work.
Participate in professional and community activities.
Uses computers for teaching and management of online course information. Familiarity and ability to teach in a distance learning environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performance OR Bachelor's in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performance and Master's in Comparative Literature, English, Speech, Literature or Humanities.
Sensitivity to and demonstrated success teaching in the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic environment such as a community college.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Postsecondary teaching experience.
Master's in Fine Arts in Acting or Directing
History as a director with experience in a variety of styles and historical periods, including musical comedy.
Demonstrated expertise in teaching drama, including theatre appreciation and acting, in the classroom setting.
Demonstrated expertise in directing major productions of plays and musicals.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in both acting and directing.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
Demonstrated knowledge of the diverse needs and abilities of nontraditional students and familiarity with materials and methods designed to meet the students' needs.
Demonstrated willingness to put in extra time required to make a program successful.
Expertise in the use of computers for teaching and management of online course information. Familiarity and ability to teach in a distance learning environment.
Ability to teach in a technologically rich environment.
