  • As part of diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks qualified candidates for our University Minister for Discipleship to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by leading dynamic programs which engage students in a life of discipleship in light of the Catholic faith. This includes growing participation in faith formation opportunities and forming faith filled student leadership, planning retreats and faith activities which lead students into a life of discipleship that reveals the love of God, creates awareness of self and others. The minister will be deeply rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, engage Marian intercultural forms of ministry. The ideal candidate will be joy-filled, creative, highly, organized, and seek out new opportunities and collaborations. Students should see the University Minister as a Christian witness, leader, and mentor.
  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leading through service, integrating faith and life and institutional policies.
  • Retreats: Coordinate and expand retreats to include opportunities during the Fall and Spring semesters through student leadership formation, sound fiscal stewardship, and innovation.
  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: Coordinate a Christian initiation process and discernment that leads participates into a deep relationship with Jesus Christ through the Sacraments of initiation.
  • Coordinate intentional inquiry opportunities for students seeking faith, including those from no or other faith backgrounds who want to know about the Catholic Church, and those who are Catholic but are seeking a Better understanding of the Catholic faith.
  • Coordinate and train students who serve on the team.

 

  • Spiritual Mentoring and Direction: Coordinate and expand the Spiritual Direction program and Mentoring program to serve students.
  • Coordinate Certified Spiritual Directors, including recruiting, application process, assigning directives and submitting paperwork for payment of services.
  • Identify and Coordinate Marian University staff, faculty, and Covent Ministers to serve as spiritual mentors for students.
  • Days of Reflection or Pilgrimages:  Coordinate a student led day or evening of reflection during each of the fall and Spring Semester by engaging student leaders in creative planning and implementation of opportunities that invite other to reflect on and encounter God in the ordinary and extraordinary of life. Coordinate periodic Pilgrimages when relevant opportunities for students are identified. 
  • Other Responsibilities and Various Leadership:
  • Manages budget for above programs and responsibilities
  • Actively participates in Mission and Ministry and Campus Ministry teams
  • Participate in, at least, yearly professional development and/or formation experiences
  • S/he participates in the liturgical and prayer life of the university community, in particular Sunday and All Campus Masses.
  • Support students, faculty and staff in finding and using resources for faith formation.
  • Collaborate with Students Success and Engagement team, representing Campus Ministry on various committees to include Community Engaged Learning, Serving SJI, Programming Leaders, Welcome Week team.
  • Availability to students of all faiths to offer support, encouragement and listening.

 

 

  • Required Qualifications:
  • Baptized, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or related field
  • Willingness to attain a Master’s degree in theology or ministry (if not already possessed)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in campus ministry, specifically in directing faith formation and retreat programs.
  • Knowledgeable of and an excellent communicator of the Rites of Christian Initiation
  • Regular/ Frequent work during evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel locally and participate in overnight retreats
  • Possesses (or has the ability to obtain) a passport
  •  Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite
  • Experienced with Web 2.0 social media applications (I.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.,)
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Theology or Ministry
  • Knowledge of the Franciscan charism and tradition
  • More than five years of experience in the area of Faith formation in a parish or university is strongly preferred
  • Currently or previous experience with a Spiritual Director.
