The Network Applications and System Architecture Systems Administrator is responsible for the operation and support of the LSU campus' cloud technologies - compute (server) hardware and technology, storage hardware and technology, virtualization software and technology, and backup/replication software and technology. This position also needs to have an understanding of the Windows Server or POSIX operating system. 

Job Responsibilities:

 Responds to cloud technologies - compute (server) hardware and technology, storage hardware and technology, virtualization software and technology, and backup/replication software and technology incidents, problems, and events. Assists in the fulfillment of customer requests. Follows appropriate processes to mitigate incidents, problems, and events and to fulfill customer requests. This position must be available 24 hours a day. Assists customers in learning new cloud technology, training in group settings or individually as needed. ( System Admin 1 and 2: 60%; System Admin 3- 45%) 

Assists in the strategy, design, transition, operation, and improvement of the LSU campus' cloud technologies - compute (server) hardware and technology, storage hardware and technology, virtualization software and technology, and backup/replication software and technology. Creates documentation and baselines around LSU’s cloud technologies. Schedules routine maintenance and security updates. Meets and consults with customers on needs regarding cloud technologies. Assists in collecting charge back data for cloud technologies. ( System Admin 1 and 2: 30%; System Admin 3- 45%) 

Other duties as assigned. (System Admin 1,2, and 3- 10%) 

Minimum Qualifications: 

System Administrator 1:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to actively participate in a team environment 

System Administrator 2:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of Experience
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to actively participate in a team environment 

System Administrator 3:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years of Experience
  • Solid written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to actively participate in a team environment 

Preferred Qualifications: 

System Administrator 1:

  • Assists in the support of Cloud Computing Service Models: Software as a Service, Platform as a Service, and/or Infrastructure as a Service
  • Assists in the support of virtual data center(s), cloud environment(s), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environments related to Network Applications environments.
  • Assists in the ensuring of efficient, reliable, and consistent operation of all Network Applications systems, services, and applications
  • Installing and supporting any of the following operating systems:
    • Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, or Red Hat Linux 8
    • CentOS Linux 6, CentOS 7, and/or CentOS 8
    • Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
  • Familiarity with Office365, Microsoft Azure, BOX.com, G Suite and Zoom but familiarity with Cisco Webex and/or Skype for Business could be substituted for Zoom and Teams.
  • Familiarity with virtualization concepts and technology.
  • Familiarity with backup/disaster recovery concepts and technology.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, Python.
  • Familiarity of API’s, and specifically REST API 

System Administrator 2:

  • Installing and supporting any of the following operating systems:
    • Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, or Windows Server 2019

    • CentOS Linux 6, CentOS 7, and/or CentOS 8
  • Installing and supporting server hardware (preferably Cisco UCS but familiarity with HPE ProLiant and/or Dell PowerEdge could be substituted). Specific tasks include:
    • Troubleshooting server hardware issues
    • Troubleshooting blade chassis issues
    • Installing/replacing blade servers
    • Installing/replacing chassis and/or chassis components
  • Installing and supporting virtualization products and technology (Preferably VMware ESXi, vSphere, and/or Horizon, but familiarity with KVM, Hyper-V, and/or Citrix could be substituted). Specific tasks include:
    • Provisioning virtual machines
    • De-provisioning virtual machines
    • Adding processor, memory, and/or storage resources to a virtual machine
    • Managing storage connections
    • Reporting on processor, memory, and storage usage
  • Assist in planning and supporting backup/disaster recovery scenarios, including but not limited to:
    • Creating backup schedules
    • Creating replication schedules
    • Verifying backup jobs
    • Restoring virtual machines from backup
    • Reporting on storage usage
