Position Overview
The Department of Nursing, in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Merrimack College, seeks to hire a Simulation Technician that will provide: 1) technical and operational support for laboratories and simulation activities for the nursing programs, data collection related to laboratory and simulation education, and 3) assist with obtaining simulation accreditation. The Nursing Center at Merrimack College is a 20,000 square foot space which includes two classrooms, two dedicated debriefing rooms, and six multi-purpose simulation laboratory spaces. Simulation laboratory spaces are equipped with state of the art, hospital grade medical equipment, high and low fidelity manikins, trainers, audio visual systems, and electronic hardware and software systems. Responsibilities include:
Simulation Center Operations – 80%
- Implements, operates, and participates in simulation activities
to guarantee a high quality, safe, and consistent simulation
experience in the Merrimack College Nursing Center Simulation
labs.
- Responsible for the preparation, setup, and disassembly of the
necessary equipment and supplies for each activity.
- Performs day-to-day maintenance and cleansing of equipment,
simulators, trainers, and simulation rooms.
- Prepares, programs and operates simulation equipment, and
audiovisual systems during simulation events, including maintaining
simulators, task trainers, simulation rooms, and other
equipment/props in functioning order through monitoring of
appropriate use.
- Troubleshoot simulation software, hardware, and network
connectivity issues when needed.
- Provides direct support for the inventory system by ensuring
that the inventory is kept up to date with our current offerings
and inventory on hand.
- Communicates with the Lab and Simulation Coordinator of
Nursing, regarding low stock and verifying supply counts for
equipment.
- Leads the daily restocking process for all ‘on hand’ supplies
housed in each of the learning spaces.
- Provides support and backup in operating simulation equipment
or the simulation capture system during the activity.
- Assists with coordinating regular maintenance and repair for
all lab simulation equipment.
- Assists and collaborates with the Lab and Simulation
Coordinator to help provide learner and faculty orientation to the
simulation lab environment, manikins, equipment, supplies,
monitors, among others.
- Participates in nursing simulation lab training to remain
competent in operating the nursing simulation lab equipment and
standards of best practice in simulation education delivery.
- Provide campus tours and community outreach events as
requested.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Collects and maintains clinical and educational simulation data for analysis and research.

The Undergraduate Nursing Program Director, Department of Nursing
Qualifications:
A background in computer science, technology,, or other related field, and one year of related work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of apple and google applications, and internet
database applications.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software
applications relevant to simulator functions.
- Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording,
duplication, mixing, and editing.
- Ability to learn new hardware and software quickly and
independently.
- Self motivated and ability to work effectively in a team
environment.
- Associate Degree Required, Bachelor Degree preferred.
- Previous experience in a simulation lab is preferred.
- Knowledge of Medical equipment is a plus.
- Certified as a Healthcare Simulation Operation Specialist
(CHSOS) from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, OR
commitment to obtain certification within 24 months of
employment.
- Must be able to independently move equipment (less than 25
lbs.) and move manikins (less than 50 lbs.) with the assistance of
others.
