DEPARTMENT: ART

POSITION TITLE: Lecturer Pool - ART

POSITION DETAILS:
The Department of Art anticipates a need for part-time instructors. Salary rate is variable depending upon qualifications and relevant experience.
The Department of Art is part of the College of Arts and Letters. At the undergraduate level, it offers a BFA degree in Art Studio, a BA degree in Art History and Studio Art, and a degree in Art Studies that prepares students to earn the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art for grades K-12.) At the graduate level, it offers an MFA degree in Studio Art. The Art Department is accredited by the National Association of Art and Design (NASAD). See below for additional job duties for specific areas of: I) Art Education; II) Art History; and III) Studio Art
  • Art Education: Teach undergraduate classes in Art Education for Children and Secondary Art Education, all with content conforming to national and California visual art standards.
  • Art History: Teach undergraduate classes in Western and non-Western art, criticism, and visual culture from pre-history to the present and from many perspectives.
  • Studio Art: Teach undergraduate classes in art and visual culture, ceramics, drawing & painting, new media art, printmaking, and sculpture.

    The duties of a part-time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
    Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool of applicants are made when there are instructional needs to fill coursework offered by an academic department based on changing enrollment patterns, changes to tenure-track faculty assignments, and other factors that cannot be addressed with our existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often appointments are made just prior to the start of the semester.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    In general, it is required to have a terminal degree in the field for which you are applying to teach OR a Masters of Arts with demonstrated teaching experience. See below for additional qualifications for specific areas:
  • Art Education:

  • REQUIRED: M.A. degree in Art Education OR M.F.A. degree in Studio Art accepted with K-12 teaching experience.

    PREFERRED: Doctoral degree in Art Education; Public school teaching experience and/or college teaching experience in art education
  • Art History:

  • REQUIRED: M.A. degree for lower-division courses; Ph.D. for upper-division courses. College teaching experience in Art History.

    PREFERRED: Ph.D. for lower-division courses.
  • Studio Art:

  • REQUIRED: M.F.A. in Studio Art

    PREFERRED: College teaching experience.

    1. Letter of Interest and sample syllabi - listing courses you are prepared to teach with sample syllabi (comparable college courses accepted).
    2. Complete curriculum vitae (CV) that includes the Dates (semester/year) & Summaries of relevant teaching experience (provide a listing of comparable college classes taught that includes the number of courses and course sections).
    3. References - names & contact information for (3) references who can address your teaching skills.
    4. Unofficial transcripts indicating the degree relevant to the area you are wishing to be considered.

    I. Art Education: In addition to the application materials outlined above, include a Portfolio of 20 JPG images (maximum) of your work and/or your students' work.*

    III. Studio Art: In addition to the application materials outlined above, include a Portfolio of 20 JPG images of your work and 20 JPG images of your students' work.*

    *For all applications with videos or JPG images: Each JPG should be less than 2.5 megabytes and sized to 1024 pixels (14.22 inches) on the longest side, at 72ppi. For videos, any documentation must be on Vimeo.

    Per CSU-wide policy (HR2021-04), all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California. Faculty hired prior to January 1, 2022 must be available to perform work in the State of California if their assignment is in-person.
