Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Associate Director for Brand and Content Strategy, the Content Producer will be responsible for creating and editing content for brand marketing channels. The position will research, write, edit, and validate content that aligns with California Lutheran University's brand strategies in support of the University Marketing department.

Representative Duties:
  • Researches and produces extensible content for Cal Lutheran websites, email marketing, print, advertising, and social media in English and Spanish; translates existing content. E
  • Consults with project leads and other internal partners to determine their needs and goals, develop content briefs and outlines, gather and consolidate existing content, check facts and find sources; obtains requisite information and testimonials from constituents. E
  • Reports on content performance and audience engagement, and optimizes content based on available metrics. E
  • Ensures that content adheres to high standards for accuracy, message consistency, and usability; collaboratively develops and maintains copywriting style guide documentation.
  • Coordinates content production projects with outside copywriters and/or translation partners. E
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a master content calendar; anticipate opportunities to repurpose content across channels. E
  • Facilitates and participates in on-campus content communities and curates content generated throughout the University. E
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and refinement of the University’s integrated brand strategy.

Knowledge Of:
  • Fundamentals of grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation; meticulous copyediting and proofreading skills in English and Spanish
  • Writing and the use of tone and voice for effective communication with a variety of constituency
  • Content validation techniques, such as user tests, designing A/B tests, and monitoring marketing analytics
  • Content research techniques, such as prospect and stakeholder interviews, competitor research, and social user voice data mining
  • Best practices when writing for print and digital advertising, websites, email, and social media
  • Project management practices to direct outside content production
  • University brand architecture
  • University mission, goals, and objectives
  • Microsoft or Google office software suites

  • Build effective working partnerships with internal clients and other staff members
  • Build positive relationships and educate campus partners about content best practices
  • Work with outside partners to produce content by communicating our needs, goals, and brand guidelines and coordinating on-time project delivery
  • Evaluate and edit the work of other campus content producers and outside partners
  • Work independently as well as cooperatively as part of a team
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines for work assigned or outsourced while maintaining quality standards
  • Develop content briefs to articulate the intention behind creative and content outlines and templates to demonstrate creative direction
  • Maintain shared content and records and prepare reports related to assigned activities
  • Continually develop skills and stay up-to-date with content marketing best practices
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment


Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, or related field and three years experience in writing and editing content for print and digital media with native-like fluency in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Experience repurposing content from a single source to multiple audiences and outlets.
Experience with content marketing and strategy.
Experience in higher education.
