Position Title Associate Professor - Department of Petroleum Engineering The Opportunity The Department of Petroleum Engineering at Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, academic faculty position at the Associate Professor level. Qualified candidates with research specialization in one or more areas of petroleum engineering are encouraged to apply. Preferential consideration will be given to applicants with expertise and post-doctorate research experience in data analytics with applications to reservoir engineering and geomechanics, well construction and completion, and production and flow assurance. Successful candidates are expected to support the department’s data analytics-oriented courses, participate in summer field camps, and contribute to online teaching efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver course materials to undergraduate and graduate students in traditional, hybrid, and/or online formats, and demonstrating teaching excellence.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Establish an internationally recognized reputation for scholarship with a correspondingly impactful record of publications and public presentations.
  • Develop strong externally funded research programs focused on innovative topics in science and engineering.
  • Contribute both institutionally and externally through active service.
  • Cultivate and promote an inclusive, diverse, and accessible Mines community through recruiting, mentorship, and service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in petroleum engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited program.
  • At least 5 years of teaching and research experience in a petroleum engineering or similar engineering department in the area of data analytics.
  • Track record of successful research funding acquisition
  • Established publication record in the area of data analytics and machine learning and a H-index of 32 plus.
  • Research experience at academic institutions, national laboratories, and/or industry and accomplishments.
  • General pedagogical knowledge (how to teach); pedagogical content knowledge (how to teach a specific discipline); and ability to use instructional technology for effective teaching.
  • Integrity, energy, and passion for education and research.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Merits of teaching and/or research obtained at academic institutions, industry, or national laboratories.
  • Demonstrated record of research publications in archival journals and conference proceedings.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
Department Description The Petroleum Engineering Department has a preeminent program in education and research and offers undergraduate and graduate (Master and PhD) degrees. The strength of the education and research programs is enhanced through collaboration with the strong geosciences departments as well as many other disciplines at Mines. The Department has fourteen faculty, five supporting staff, and 258 undergraduate and 66 graduate students. The annual research volume of the Department is approximately $2 million from private sector, foundations, and government, with several large research programs on unconventional reservoirs, reservoir modeling and engineering, geomechanics, rock and fluid characteristics, stimulation and fracturing, geothermal energy, and drilling / completion / production. Pay Range

Mines is offering an academic year salary of $103,000 – $106,500.

Mines takes into consideration a combination of the candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining the final salary level for potential new employees.
