Job Summary

LASP is seeking a part-time (75% appointment) Guidance, Navigation & Controls (GNC) system, pointing and controls engineering for an asteroid exploration mission.

Who We Are

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) began in 1948, a decade before NASA. We are the world’s only research institute to have sent instruments to all eight planets and Pluto.

LASP combines all aspects of space exploration through our expertise in science, engineering, mission operations, and scientific data analysis. As part of CU, LASP also works to educate and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers and mission operators by integrating undergraduate and graduate students into working teams. Our students take their unique experiences with them into government or industry, or remain in academia to continue the cycle of exploration.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Responsible for the development of the GNC pointing and controls requirements and algorithms.
  • Responsible for the performance analysis and hardware specifications of the pointing and controls systems.
  • Responsible for the integration, test and verification of the pointing and controls systems.
  • Responsible for the development of the products and processes for flight operations.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this 75% appointment is $119,289.67 - $167,120.09 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.

What We Require
  • A Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent engineering field) with 8-10 years experience or PhD in Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent engineering field) with 3-5 years experience in pointing, controls and control/structure interactions.
What You Will Need
  • Spaceflight control system development and analysis experience with fundamental understanding of controls/structures interactions. Experience with Python programming, C/C++ programming, dynamical modeling and simulation systems (e.g. Basilisk).
