Performs administrative duties in the management and coordination of a large specialized project and program. Performs varied and complex administrative duties requiring independent judgment and the application of established policies and procedures. May provide supervision and direction to clerical, paraprofessional or professional staff members.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Program & Resource Development: Support the TTUHSC Office of Research (OoR) Vice Presidents with developing sustainable programming and resources to support research commercialization and entrepreneurship activities . Including but not limited to;
    • Develop programs to bridge TTUHSC research commercialization teams to the Texas Tech University Innovation Hub (TTU I-Hub) and strengthen TTUHSC investigators’ utilization of the TTU I-Hub. Includes partnering with TTU I-Hub on TTU Regional I-Corps program implementation and co-hosting the I-Corps program at TTUHSC campus locations.

    • Develop and coordinate the TTUHSC RICE Seed Programs related to research commercialization.

    • Develop evidence-based best practices and create resources to guide TTUHSC investigators on how to succeed at commercializing their research in our institution.

    • Support the ORI with developing an innovative website design to ensure a user-friend interface that markets offices and services in a synergetic manner. Will maintain website pages and continue to direct content management.

  • Education Development: Support the ORI Vice Presidents with developing education and curriculum to support research commercialization and entrepreneurship activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
    • Support the TTUHSC Vice President of Research Innovation by coordinating "Talking Tours" to discuss and educate on research commercialization and entrepreneurship.

    • Coordinate seminars to educate on best practices when pursuing research. commercialization funding opportunities. Including but not limited to workshops to educate on; the TTU Office of Research Commercialization Tech Transfer Process, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program, and the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval process.

    • Collaborate with the Office of Research Integrity and Sponsored Programs by educating and assisting faculty with research integrity management plans, research protocols, and grant cayuse submissions related to research commercialization.

  • Outreach & Team Development: Support the ORI Vice Presidents by coordinating outreach and team development to support research commercialization & entrepreneurship activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
    • Develop and maintain relationships with TTUHSC investigators, graduate students (SLING Health), staff, and external stakeholders to learn individual areas of strength and interest related to research commercialization and compile data to a central database.
      • Direct research commercialization pipeline team development and successful program competition. Includes facilitating team formation through various recruitment strategies, monitoring program progress, facilitating external specialty mentors, mentoring team members on customer discovery, assisting the team in navigating issues, and continued team follow-up upon successful program completion.

      • Support research commercialization investigative teams by providing custom market assessments for proof of concept validation.

  • Grantsmanship: Support the ORI Vice Presidents with coordinating grantsmanship support for research commercialization & entrepreneurship activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
    • Match external research commercialization funding opportunities through prospecting and working with internal and external stakeholders

    • Support TTUHSC investigators with research commercialization proposal submission to the Office of Sponsored Programs, including proposal project management, document compiling, technical writing atting guidance, and guiding cayuse submission.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate Certifications and/or Master's Degree.

4 years of grantsmanship experience.

Knowledge of healthcare/life science research commercialization.

Industry experience with market validation and proof of concept studies.

Successful history working with Institutional Research Offices.

Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Demonstrates the capacity to connect well with others through active listening.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Disciplined as a self-starter and can work independently with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field. Four years of related administrative and technical experience. Additional job related education may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
