About the Position:

The Systems Integrations Engineer serves as a member of a growing team and will work with the core technologies powering SMU’s Identity Infrastructure. This team is devoted to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of an enterprise person registry, a user grouping system, a service provisioning system, as well as user-facing and administrative applications.  
 
This individual grasps the vision of the Identity program and architecture and works to complete integrations that achieve the designed solutions. The individual will be heavily involved on many levels from working with the infrastructure, to working with business analysts, and will receive direction from architects regarding IAM strategies and processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Integrate the next generation of Identity and Access Management (IAM) components including the person registry, user grouping, and service provisioning engine with a wide variety of systems via Application Programming Interfaces (API), web services, message queues, direct integrations, scripts, etc. to achieve architected objectives.

  • Collaborate with the constituents across the organization to capture business requirements and objectives while performing analysis to design and implement Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions.  Develop recommendations, procedures, and documentation for applications and services in response to advancing technology and campus requirements. 

  • Develop and implement new software solutions that will be used to meet Identity and Access Management (IAM) functional gaps. 

  • Assist in problem determination, root cause analysis, and coordination of corrective action.  Work collaboratively across all layers of the technology stack and across the organization, taking ownership for service availability and performance.

  • Use continuous improvement methodologies to develop and evolve organizational process improvements following Identity and Access Management (IAM) industry best practices and standards.

  • Proactively develop reports and documentation to assist end users, auditors, and leadership to validate current technical configurations, impact to the organization, and help influence data driven decision making.

  • Proactively facilitate and participate in working groups communicating between business units, technical teams, and support teams to achieve organizational goals.

  Qualifications  

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s is required. Master's degree is preferred.

A minimum of six (6) years of work experience in Java development  and three years of experience with API integrations is required.

Candidate with experience working with database systems such as Postgres, SQL Server, or Oracle is preferred. Candidate with proficiency in Linux and/or Windows operating systems is desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have experience working with any middleware solutions or service provisioning systems and RESTful web services to integrate systems. Candidate with System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) skills is desired.

Candidate must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively with others throughout the IT organization, with various business units, and with external partners. A successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who is willing to take on challenging initiatives and evolving requirements and follow through to deliver results. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader who will become a subject matter expert, able to support IAM systems within a complex and evolving environment.

Candidate must possess a combination of technical, communication, and collaboration skills. Candidate must demonstrate ability to develop and support scalable solutions, ensure stable operation, and champion quality throughout the service delivery process.

Candidate with experience with any of the following languages and technologies is preferred:

  • PHP, PowerShell, XML, JSON
  • ConnId Framework
  • REST API
  • Shibboleth/SAML
  • Spring
  • OAuth2/OpenID Connect
  •  

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • Sit for long periods of time
