Position Summary

The Residential Living Assistant Director, Student and Community Engagement oversees residential student support and engagement. Supervises two Residential Community Coordinators, residential well-being graduate interns, and indirectly student staff. Coordinates RA recruitment, RA training, residential engagement, and student crisis management. Evening and weekend time commitments are involved to attend events and handle incidents that occur outside of the regular work schedule.

Essential Job Functions of Position

Responsible for working with Human Resources to recruit student staff and develop, facilitate and lead the training of student staff, which can be as many as forty or more students.

Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and evaluates the performance and effectiveness of assigned staff or students to maximize employee performance and facilitate professional growth. Provides feedback and professional development opportunities.

Creates and updates student staff manuals to ensure accurate, current, and complete information.

Develops, manages, and assesses the residential engagement model that provides residential learning objectives and a framework for engaging with residents.

Manages student crisis follow-up and support. Provides appropriate staff with the information needed for UBAT level student support.

Trains and manages on-call professional and student staff on student crisis response and oversees the on-call rotation duty schedule, and fills in as needed in the on-call professional staff duty rotation.

Utilizes Navigate to work with academic partners in supporting students academically and co-supervises Residential Peer Mentors in collaboration with the Office of Student Success.

Serves as advisor to student housing organizations such as the Washburn Resident Council or the RA Council as assigned by the Director.

Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in helping profession, business or related field. Experience in residential living and student staff supervision.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Student Personnel or Development, counseling or related field. One year of college or university housing experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

A demonstrated intercultural competence and knowledge of organizational development, group dynamics, strategies for change, and principles of community.

Effective interpersonal, group, and cross-cultural communication and leadership skills.

Demonstrated successful project and program management and ability to implement and evaluate comprehensive projects and programs.
