POSITION PURPOSE
The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will report directly to the Director of Annual Giving and will work closely with the entire Development and Alumni Relations team. This position will oversee Whitman's calling/texting and digital giving, Senior Gift and all current student philanthropy programs and strategies. The Assistant Director is responsible for all aspects relating to the planning and day to day operations of these programs. This position requires an ability to interface professionally with alumni, parents, administration, faculty and students, and have the ability to effectively communicate and train others to communicate the vision of the College. A successful candidate will have excellent management skills and be able to effectively lead and motivate student employees and volunteers.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Recruit, interview, train and provide performance assessments to a team of 20+ student employees, assistant managers and managers. Assistant Director will supervise daily/nightly outreach Sunday through Thursday and during strategically placed sessions outside of the regular schedule.
  • Manage Senior Gift efforts including recruitment, coaching and training of committee members/volunteers, goal setting, and campus-wide programmatic development and implementation.
  • Plan and execute events, opportunities and activities with the goal of educating current students about the impact of philanthropy.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued.
  • In conjunction with the Director, develop annual goals, Senior Gift strategies, segmentation plans, and student outreach assignments.
  • Maintain statistical data reporting of all student fundraising and educational activities and, with the Director, evaluate the efficacy of programs and make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
  • Develop training materials based on Whitman Fund strategy and constituent segments, and train callers to effectively communicate Whitman's mission and fundraising priorities.
  • Partner with internal and external constituents to ensure the viability of data and maintain thorough knowledge of software and industry best practices.
  • Utilize best practices to achieve pledge fulfillment rates.
  • Invite key College leaders and volunteers to student training sessions and maintain close communication with Whitman communications staff to ensure student employees and volunteers are provided with accurate and timely information.
  • Provide professional development opportunities such as coaching and mentorship for student employees to increase their knowledge of philanthropy and workplace practices.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment—with a mix of student, alumni and staff/faculty colleagues.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (regular evenings and weekends required).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in personally soliciting gifts and/or cold-calling.
  • Experience working with automated calling/texting software.
  • Familiarity with Annual Giving best practices in higher education.
