Chief Objective of Position

This position is a member of the administrative library staff who supervises all aspects of the Circulation Department.

Work Tasks

  • Supervise all aspects of the Circulation and Reserve services for the Trible Library.
  • Supervise and review three classified positions and two part-time positions. Train positions as necessary on new procedures, policies and services. Ensure library services are adequately staffed. Establish work schedules. Assist in the training and supervision of student workers.
  • Exercises independent judgement and decision making in setting policies and procedures for the Circulation Department in consultation with the University Librarian.
  • Apply knowledge of technology and patron issues in working with Head of Technology Services on issues related to Circulation and Reserve systems of the Library Management System. Including loan periods and circulation notices.
  • Provide high level of service to general public. Sets standards of service for the department.
  • Provide analysis of general library usage to University Librarian on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for gathering and analysis of circulation and reserve statistics and reporting them to the University Librarian.
  • Inform University Librarian on issues related to Circulation issues.
  • Monitor and supervise building issues.
  • Support library instruction efforts as needed.
  • Provide reference assistance.
  • Serve as liaison to one or more academic departments.
  • This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.
  • Develop and maintain very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees.   • Review and communicate safety issues to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) required

Ability to communicate with undergraduate students. Ability to work with academic faculty Knowledge of academic library services. Knowledge of online library resources. Familiarity with issues involved in developing, delivering, and assessing user service issues. Good oral and written communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to public service. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a team in a collegial environment. Evidence of potential to maintain an ongoing program of professional involvement and development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred

Knowledge of science library resources.

Required Education

Must have a Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited university at time of start date.

Preferred Education

Undergraduate degree in any science discipline.

Experience Required

Academic library experience. Experience with providing direct user assistance in a customer focused environment. Experience in providing academic library reference services. Experience using current technology to deliver or enhance teaching, learning, and/or user services.

Experience Preferred

Experience in providing instruction and reference services in an academic library. Experience supervising.
