Job Summary

The Athletics Trainer II, Basketball provides care and treatment of athletic injuries including assessment, prevention, rehabilitation, and reconditioning.

Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provides daily healthcare for student-athletes including injury and illness prevention and assessment, referral and follow-up, rehabilitation, and reconditioning.
  • Complies with established policies and procedures related to emergency service, referrals and adherence to physician treatment guidelines.
  • Communicates student-athlete injury and illness status and progress to the athletic training staff, team physicians, administrators, strength and conditioning staff, and coaches.
  • Maintains appropriate and accurate medical records of injuries, treatment plans, and progress. Assures confidentiality of records.
  • Processes, submits, and follows-up on athletic insurance claims.
  • Serves as site coordinator for institutional and NCAA drug testing.
  • Mentors Resident Athletic Trainers and Student Athletic Training Interns.
  • Complies with all University, ASUN or CCSA (Coastal Collegiate Sports Association) regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, ASUN and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Other Duties:
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains current knowledge of treatment modalities and preventive techniques related to sports injuries.
  • Travels throughout the country and internationally as assigned.
Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Current athletic trainer certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Licensed as an athletic trainer in Florida or eligible at the time of employment.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Three years of full-time professional athletic training experience in higher education athletics.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or closely related field.
  • Three years of full-time professional athletic training experience in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I institution.
  • Experience with insurance pre-authorizations, claims filing, or claims processing.
  • Experience providing clinical education and supervision of athletic training students.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) health systems software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, injury evaluation, and proper treatment protocols.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations and a strong commitment to maintain compliance with those rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of student-athlete intellectual, emotional and social development and an ability to guide athletes toward successful completion of an undergraduate degree while participating in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of and ability to administer first aid and CPR/AED.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to operate within a team organizational structure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, physicians, coaches, and student athletes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally.
Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000
