ASU Library is recruiting a Research Data Curator to join a newly formed unit dedicated to open science and scholarly communication within the Engagement and Learning Services Directorate and who will report to the unit head. As a new position within this new unit, this is a great opportunity for an early career professional interested in developing skills and expertise in this area and contributing to the planning and growth of this team. They will collaborate with other team members, along with internal stakeholders across the library, to develop a program of engagement, outreach, and support for the ASU research community. 

The Research Data Curator develops and manages research data publication workflows and provides guidance and support for curating, describing, publishing, sharing and archiving research datasets. They develop and maintain relationships with ASU researchers from multiple disciplines who are preparing to publish and share their research data and related scholarly outputs through the ASU’s Research Data Repository and KEEP institutional repository. They are responsible for performing quality assurance on the metadata associated with research data.

This position is committed to curating and stewarding data to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Inter-operable, and Reusable) principles and CARE standards (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics) and intentionally develops an intimate knowledge of Indigenous data sovereignty work in academia. They will cultivate the cultural fluency to engage Indigenous researchers and Indigenous stakeholders on Indigenous-driven data support. Additionally, the Research Data Curator may liaise with stakeholders outside of academia including but not limited to Tribal governments and cultural heritage keepers.

The Research Data Curator fulfills the responsibilities expected of Academic Professionals, including position effectiveness, professional contributions, service, and collaboration and partnership. New graduates and new-to-research data curation librarians are encouraged to apply. On-the-job training and career mentorship in research data librarianship is provided and encouraged. Preferred qualifications are not required for consideration for this position.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program in Library and Information Science.
• Experience and/or familiarity with data management, curation, and sharing topics.
• A statement in your cover letter addressing how your past and/or potential contributions to social justice, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion will advance ASU Library’s commitment to inclusive excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated cultural fluency skills to engage and support researchers of varied and diverse backgrounds and cultures, with an emphasis on Indigenous researchers.
• Experience providing research data management consultation and education. 
• Experience with data stewardship practices and procedures, such as CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics for Indigenous Data Governance) and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Inter-operable, and Reusable) principles.
• Knowledge of Indigenous data sovereignty work, both within and outside of academia.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous research methods and methodologies.
• Experience with Dataverse, Mukurtu, or similar research data platforms.
• Experience managing and evaluating small to moderate projects or major project tasks to provide and improve services.

Salary and Rank: This is a continuing appointment track Academic Professional position; Assistant/Associate Librarian and salary dependent upon experience. Early career professionals are encouraged to apply.
