The Search
The American College of the Mediterranean (ACM), a U.S. non-profit institution with degree programs in Aix-en-Provence, France and study abroad programs in France, Spain, and Morocco, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Finance (CFO). 

Job Summary
Based at ACM's U.S. Office in San Diego, CA and reporting directly to the President’s Office, the Director of Finance (CFO) will provide leadership and oversight of ACM’s daily and strategic operations. They will work in partnership with the President to define and deliver administrative excellence for ACM. They will provide management leadership that develops and effectively delivers ACM services in alignment with the strategic vision established by the President and Board of Trustees. The Director of Finance (CFO) will be responsible for overseeing the effective execution of ACM’s financial, personnel, IT, and logistic operations as well as the effective oversight of the financial and human resources of ACM. They will provide the day-to-day leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the effective growth of the organization, financial health and strength, and operating efficiency. Specific duties tied to the position include:

  • Accounting/Audit Preparation/Tax Filings/Compliance
  • Budgeting/Financial reporting and analysis/Forecasting/Hedging
  • Investment management
  • Banking relationships
  • Currency risk management
  • Implementation of financial and student information systems
  • Payroll/Group Benefits Management

Qualifications and Requirements
Employment: A minimum of three years of successful experience in a senior-level financial role.
Education: An advanced degree in Finance, Higher Education Administration, Tax Law, or International Relations is preferred.
Position Location: ACM’s U.S. Office in San Diego, CA.

The candidate will have an outstanding track record of achievement in strategic and operational management in a university or similarly complex organization in either the public or private sector. They will work directly with ACM leadership, staff members, and board members to ensure financial stability, compliance, transparency, and accountability for all financial activities. The successful candidate will have a capacity for innovative thinking; a proven aptitude for teamwork; excellent interpersonal skills; strong written, oral, and public speaking communication skills in English with a preference for an individual with some proficiency in French or Spanish; a nuanced appreciation of the French/Spanish and American cultures, particularly their higher education systems; and a demonstrated commitment to international education.  

Contract/Compensation
The Director of Finance (CFO) will be on a U.S. contract. The salary range is $90,000-$115,000 (salary is commensurate with experience). In addition, ACM’s overall compensation package is very competitive and includes: 

  • Comprehensive health, life, dental, vision, short- and long-term disability insurance with all premiums paid by ACM. Spouses and dependents premiums are covered at 50%.
  • ACM contributes the maximum amount allowed annually by the IRS (currently $3,650 for self-only and $7,300 for families on plan) to a Health Savings Account (H.S.A.) in the employee’s name
  • ACM contributes 7% of gross pay to the employee’s retirement plan - a 403(b) account through TIAA - regardless of the level of contribution by the employee
  • Four weeks of paid vacation annually plus six federally recognized holidays and six personal days
  • Sick leave/Discretionary time off/Professional development
  • International travel expenses covered
  • Cell phone allowance
