Job Summary

The Precollege Outreach Office is seeking peer counselors who enjoy working with First-Generation High School and Middle school students for summer residential programs in 2022. Summer housing and meals are covered during employment. Programming will be in person! Program Dates: June 6-25, 2022.

Who We Are

CU Boulder’s Precollegiate Development Program (PCDP) is an academic enhancement program for first-generation students and families from targeted middle and high schools. Through extensive advising and engagement with families, this program ensures that students are prepared academically, personally and socially to enroll in and succeed at the postsecondary institution of their choice.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Responsibilities/Duties:
Instructor Assistant:
  • Support Instructor(s) and presenters with classroom management and attendance tracking.
  • Help program participants navigate campus to and from courses.
  • Support program participant with homework as assigned by course instructors.

Residential Advisor Duties:
  • Ensure program participant are following all program based rules while on campus.
  • Responsible for providing safe and welcoming environment in residence halls.
  • Monitor halls during night duty to ensure program participants are safe and accounted for.
  • Provide mentorship for program participants.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with program professional live-in advisor.
  • If any misconduct or emergency arises follow protocols to get support and issue addressed in a time manner.
  • Weekends and nights are required.

Mandatory Training:
  • Counselors are required to participate in mandatory training set by the Precollege Outreach Office. For 2022 there will be one training week for all programs:
  • A system wide training will be held on May 23 from 8:30 AM -2 PM.
  • On campus training dates are June 6th-June 10th. Housing and meals will be provided for all staff during training.
What You Should Know
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
    • New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • This is a temporary, full time position anticipated to last 1 month.
  • We anticipate hours varying from 8:00 AM-10:00 PM; some weekend work will be required.
  • This is an in-person position.
What We Can Offer

Compensation: $16 - $18/hr plus room and board.

Benefits
Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave .

What We Require
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Has had some undergraduate education.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Has experience as a first-generation student or has experience working with first-generation student populations.
  • Has experience working with diverse students including but not limited to: socio-economic, underrepresented, and or GLBTQ communities.
  • Has participated in precollege outreach programs such as: GearUp, Upward Bound, TRiO, and any CU Precollege Programs.
