Job Summary

The Partnership Outreach Programs department in the Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement seeks to hire an enthusiastic, motivated, and culturally competent math instructor who will deliver instruction to our community based precollege programs. We seek instructors who can support first-generation and students from marginalized communities in our two-week summer program. The instructor must be able to provide culturally responsive instruction and strengthen students’ academic curiosity.

The Major Exploration courses are meant to be introductory level with project-based work. The goal for these courses is to offer both content and application. These courses will help students solidify their interest in a future major of study. The instructor is expected to provide an introduction in their area of expertise at a college level, while providing a safe and supportive space for learning. This is a valuable opportunity for program participants to experience the demand of college level work, while also growing their academic knowledge base.

This position will take place on the CU Boulder campus over the summer from June 13-24th. The instructor will be required to develop/provide curriculum which will introduce students to concepts of the specified subject matter. The course shall be led as an exploration course. The instructor should have culturally responsive and relevant pedagogies which support first-generation students’ knowledge base.

The major exploration course will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-10:30 AM.

Finally, the instructor will be required to attend two training dates: May 25th, from 8:30 AM-2:00 PM at the CU Denver Campus and Thursday, June 9th, at CU Boulder.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The Partnership Outreach Programs Department provides precollege services and support to multiple communities across the State of Colorado. Our mission is to create opportunities of access for first-generation students, supporting their future goals for post-secondary enrollment.

Specifically, our department directs summer programming for students coming to our campus from the western slope in the Roaring Fork Valley and Summit County, the eastern plains in Morgan County, southern Colorado in the San Luis Valley, locally from Boulder County.

Over the summer the department directs and coordinates seven programs, which serves over 200 first-generation students through our outreach efforts. During their time with us, students will explore living away from their families and learn to navigate a collegiate experience for the first time. Students will gain skills to support their future application and transition into their chosen post-secondary studies. During this time, the program participant will be able to examine critical experiences in a safe and supported program, which will further facilitate their understanding and expectations for their undergraduate studies.
